If #7 rod journal is failing in these motors, it's going to be caused from tolerances, detonation, design, etc. It's not something that changing over to any specific brand or weight of oil is going to change.
Your best defense is to use a decent brand synthetic oil and change it every 5k miles (or less). Outside of that, you won't have any control over wear.
I will continue to use Amsoil 0-W30 in mine.

As you know I found Bearing 7 all messed up on mine.
Changed oil every 3K, ( I used Fully Syn 5w30 the first 2 times, Syn Blend 5w30 the 3rd , and Ford Motorcraft 5w20 for the last.
Although I immediately blamed it on a oiling problem, I'm now hearing if the bearing isn't blueing (which mines not) it was more likely caused by dirt, or debree. Why # 8 only is beyond me ???
Either way I have faith it won't happen again, because a real engine builder prepaired and assembled the motor this time, "NOT FORD"
