Hi guys ... just got my lightning yesterday

Hello all .... I just picked up my 2001 lightning yesterday . After selling my trans am about 2 months ago i missed having something fast and i always wanted a lightning . I must say i love the way this truck rides and i like the stock power ... I think i got a pretty good deal on it to its a 01 with 8500 miles . I was just wondering what mods are best bang for the buck and an issues i should fix with the truck .... i seen something about oil in the tb, Can someone fill me in on that or let me know anything else that might be an issue

thanks

shane

there has been a few recent posts on oil leakage, so you might want to search for that (should be on the first few pages though) i could tell you to search for everything, because it's all here, but first mods would be: chip from major 3 tuners, pulley, intake kit, and factory tech valve body (firmer shifts, best mod you can do) i got my intake from JLP (jlpracing.com) but am still not chipped or pullied. i'd reccomend 4lb pulley/chip to start. after that, you can go with electric fans, single blade throttle body, new intake plenum (C&L) and then headers/cat back.. and also get supercharger ported (apten) that should put you between 400-450 at the wheels depending on the tune.
and welcome to the forum, congrats on the L purchase.. get ready to spend a lot of money once the mod bug hits..

If I had to do it all over again I'd do my mods in this order.

Factory Tech Valve body (no chip needed)
Cold Air intake (no chip needed)
electric fan (no chip needed.

Then I'd add the following all at once (they all need a chip and if installed together, I only need a chip burned once)
4# lower pulley
Ported Eaton

That will easily get you into the mid 12's.

But you'll need traction bars ($99 slappers to $400 Lift bars)
and maybe a slick.

CAT BACKS do nothing except change the exhaust noise.

Headers and hi-flow cats aren't needed until you start making more power.

Welcome Shane.

Check out my web page for the things I,ve done and would recommend.

The only two that really were'nt a good bang for the buck (and I knew it before hand) were the e-fan and the convertor.

Welcome....I'm also a previous 4 time F body owner. I love my L and do not miss any of my Formulas.
Must do mods: FTVB, Chip or Programmer, 4# lower, intake, Colder plugs, Ported blower, Lift bars, saftey loop and slicks. With those mods mid to low 12s very easy to obtain. Just remember that a DYNO tune is when it's at weather you go chip or programmer. IT'S ALL IN THE TUNE!!
