Yeah, I'm with him.

You must be outside your mind if you are paying 50 dollars an hour for an undisclosed amount of time. Get a flat rate.

I helped install my 3rd built motor. Myself and one other person had the engine installed and running in 10 hours. There's no way an engine install should take 40 hours.

1200 to 1500 dollars seems to be the going rate around our area (Dallas)and I thought it seemed high.

If they are saying 40 hours at 50 bucks an hour....you are already at 2 grand..........WOW!!!

I have a question for the Mechanics amongst us. What is the "book rate" for a Lightning motor swap?

Rocks

When I did the motor swap in my 99 at the dealer, the book time was 16 hours.

I would say that's about right. One day out, one day in is acceptable for an outside shop. If it takes them longer than that, too bad (provided there isn't anything "custom" to add to the time). You shouldn't have to pay their "actual" time, if it's way more than book, that's retarted.

Cool

HI!... When I install my built 5.4 engine in late SPRING, I'll be doing it myself. Nothing new for me. I figure less then 8 hours. Just remember : Doing it yourself costs you nothing but your time............. and mabey some skin from a few of your knuckles!!!LOL!

That was everything. Air conditioning, power steering, alternator, all wiring harnesses, vacuum lines, fuel rails, injectors, headers, exhaust, lower intake, blower, efan and transmission. I will add that this was a nonstop effort for two people. If we had taken a few breaks, it might've taken 12 hours tops.

It took us 10 hours start to finish from this point.

Unfortunately that motor was crap and I ended up sending the truck to JDM so they could put a real motor in it.
