Single Blade Throttle Body
Single Blade Throttle Body
In recent months I have read quite a few threads about idle issues with the single blade throttle body. As a matter of fact, I have been a victim of that issue myself. Like many others I sent an e-mail to the mfgr. and the reply was that the throttle body would idle 200 rpm's higher because it is bigger and it hangs because of a computer problem not the throttle body. Well I can only assume that person is one of those customer service types who can't even open the hood on his own car. He didn't even bother to sign his name on the e-mail. Anyway, after careful inspection of the throttle body I discovered the throttle blade was out of allignment. It would close fully at the bottom but was still open at the top. After loosening the throttle blade screws, realligning the blade and then adjusting the stop screw it has worked fine. Unless that blade closes fully at idle position it is never going to idle right no matter how you set the TPS or the computer rpm's. To sum it up, I'd say the mfgr. has some serious quality control problems. Some of them are assembled right and others are not.
Sounds like the b/f t/b I purchased last year. Never could get it to work right...truck ran like it was down 50 hp. I finally returned it and swapped it for an e-fan...which turned out to be a much better mod in my opinion.
I really only bought the t/b for the bling factor anyway!

I had the exact same problems. I noticed the same thing about the blade alignment to the housing. I couldn't get the screws loose, and was afraid if I messed up the screw heads I could never send it back, which is what I eventually did, and now have (and happy with) the BBK unit. BBK is a twin 65mm bore, and stock is twin 57 mm.
Check this out. A guy by the screen name of PimpRohr did a dyno shootout between the two throttle bodies. My personal experience is the BBK unit idles like a stocker, also has the same additional (better) tip in response everybody claims to get from the Accufab, and the BBK costs less. http://www.svtperformance.com/forums...&highlight=BBK

AccuFab is the brand I was talking about. Not only do they have quality control problems their customer service people don't know what they are talking about either. If anyone else is having trouble with the idle check the throttle blade. That is most likely the problem. The easiest way to check it is to get a piece of paper, open the throttle by hand slightly and stick the paper between the blade and the housing. Let the throttle close and try to pull the paper out. If you have resistance or the paper won't come out the throttle is closing properly. If you don't feel any resistance when you pull the paper out it needs to be adjusted. Make sure you check the top and the bottom. The throttle blade uses torx head screws and they are put in with loctite so be careful when loosening them. After you get the screws loose back out the throttle stop adjusting screw so it won't interfear with your adjustments. Then open and close the throttle a few times until the blade seats properly in the bore. When you get the blade seated properly tighten the torx head screws. I recommend using fresh loctite to make sure the screws don't come out. You wouldn't want your engine to digest one of those things. When that is done you need to turn the throttle stop adjusting screw clockwise until it just touches the blade stop. It is only used to keep the throttle blade from sticking in the bore. It must be adjusted so that the throttle blade is allowed to close completely when in the idle position. When your adjustments are done it is a good idea to give them the paper test to make sure nothing moved. Also, don't forget to reset your TPS to the proper voltage. It should be between .98 and 1.0.
dang and i just bought a accufab so now i don't know what to do should i return it for that bbk or whatever ya'll are saying that it is better i did the paper test the bottom is fine but the top as easier to pull thru then th bottom just like to know before i put it on what ya'll think
