Painting Stock Grille

I wanna paint a stock grille black and then put the chrome stripping on the front...

my question is... if i were to attempt to paint myself, what things should I know from those of you who have done this before...

sand? - what grit paper?

pre treat? - anything to make the paint stick better?

paint - any special spray paint to be used? glossy or flat?

clear coat - any special kind

I don't have a # but Dupont makes a spray can product for painting plastic.
Just spray on, wipe off, and paint. It will make the plastic kind of sticky and it will remove any mold residue.

Buy wherever your local body shops buy Dupont.

It is probably something that you do not want to tackle yourself unless you really know what you are doing. Ever person I have heard about that has done one (body shops/paint guys) including where I had mine done always said something along the line of them never going to do another one it sucked so bad.

I got mine done in a deal where I gave Ford my stock hood and they painted my grilles and did some other work I needed done. It helps living in a smaller town where everyone at the dealership knows ya, lol.

Pictures of mine painted are somewhere in my galleries.

My buddy happens to be the best auto body guy I know! He did my 2000 honey comb style gloss black....for 150 BUCKS!!!!!! and that was including cost of the paint. He also to do a chop on my roof. No cost to me, he just wants to use my truck as a canvas for his overactive mind and handiwork! I don't think I could do that to the L though.

Sorry, I guess I didn't give you any info did I? Um...have a pro do it! It will look AWSOME!
