GT beat me.. need advise

I ran my friends 2000 Mustang GT with:

All bolt ons.. 4.10s, Nittos, Shifter, Cold Air, TB, Upper Intake (don't know which one but not stock).

He beat an 03 Cobra who had belt slippage problem.

Now he beat me.

I know a big part of the reason was I have 20s and spun all the way through first.. but once I grabbed he had too much of a lead and I couldn't pull up to him. We almost stood the same actually.

I couldn't even nurse it out the hole it spins from a 20-25 mph roll

So what now? Check out my mods in the list..

Some of these Mustangs can be tough, sounds like your friend can drive.
Traction is everything in a Lightning. You can take him. Your 20s are costing you the win. Put on the stock 18s with a set of 305 nittos then you will take him.

Good advise. You will never run him down. Traction is everything when your trying to beat a lighter, more aerodynamic vehicle.

ok.. i thought so..

when i owned my 2000 GT i spanked lightnings all the time, even with nitrous.. why? because of the hole shot..

so what can i do besides tires? traction bars?

I have a set of ET streets on F-150 wheels..

but it's a pain to switch tires everytime you wanna race.

The truck looks so good with 20s.

I think you got a bigger problem.
I don't care if you were running 33" off road tires with your mods in your sig you should walk him all day every day even if you smoke-um up outta the hole.(maybe a loss of 2-3 tenths)
A 2000 GT with bolt on's only even if he's/she running everyone is like 300-350hp @ the flywhee(low-mid 13's with a good driver&slicks) You have at least 350 to the wheels stock.
I would bet this guy/gal is running some big time spray or has more than bolt on's or your truck is not right
You should be running low 12's with 28" slicks and mid 12's on your 20"s. These trucks are not very hard to launch either

I think you got a problem....

Sorry for the negative side but something is not adding up

Get your L to the doctor. GT's should not be beating you. I had a GT spray on Me and I still beat it. It had all the bolt ons and 3.73s installed and a 100 shot. Later on I was told his best 1/4 was 12.9 on the spray.

On a side note I look foward to getting to see an 05 GT @ the track. I have only seen several V6 models.

Well it's kind of hard to beat anyone spinning till the 2nd gear shift.

I used to beat Ls all the time with more mods by out launching them.

Well this truck ran 12.80s @ 110mph with the same wheels and tires..

So I guess traction is the problem.

It also dyno'd at 388 hp and 488 tq at the wheels..

Forgot to mention I had the flip chip on Street not Strip mode.

Anyone know what's the requirements to run it on Strip mode?

I have to agree w\SLICK0478
something doesn't add up.

I have raced tons of GT's even highly modified ones and won, even on a bad launch spinning thru first.
except for.................
this one guy who kept naggin me on a empty stretch of hwy in a plain looking GT. From a 30 roll I punched it and had 2 cars on him then I dropped anchor and this guy flew by me like I was hitting the brakes, I could only laugh with the pedal to the floor and watching him put 3 cars on me. At the next light he said he was stock except for a bolt on turbo and runs 7.6's in the 8th, yeah right and a 200 shot I beat. I gave him the thumbs up, major sleeper.

"It also dyno'd at 388 hp and 488 tq at the wheels.."?? shouldn't this be more like 400/500?

He has more and\or you need to learn to launch with those tires.

Unless you guys have some special weapon, or launch control,
I have to put the entire blame on racing from a dead stop on Street tires.

A frigging VW could whoop me from a dead stop, AMOF Vinnie could prob run faster off the line

With a stick, all they have to do is a simple "chirp and waaaaaaa"
I cant even dream of attempting to launch from a dead stop on F-1's.

WHY WOULD YOU NOT HAVE RACED HIM FROM A ROLL ????
Do it again from a roll, and I'd bet my last CC, you'll dust him BIG TIME

Other wise the ONLY answer is to NOT launch it,
and simply practice the ole' "2 step"
hit is hard and fast, but only @1/3 pedal, then in a split sec, lift a sec and hit it again, @ 1/3 to 1/2, then to the floor

Not that I recommend it, BUT I also drive around with like 24-26 lbs of air in my rear tires

Well your numbers are a little low but there are to many variable to tell TEMP-DYNO ECT
I was @ 402/502 on my street side but it was a cold day and truck was sitting for a while
Like I said I think you got another prob or he has some really good hidden mods
As for the launch ease into it my traction actually got worse with rancho bars on the street but I can still manage it even in the cold just takes some practice
Buy any chance did you do a burn out before and maybe hit the rev limiter wich would close off the boost valve or do you have a boost by-pass
either way good luck this is what makes us spend more and more on mods...lol
