towing limit on our tranny

I've tried to search to see what's the most people's be pulling and I can't seem to find it. What are you towing, what does it weigh, and have you broke anything from towing too heavy of a load? Would you tow a car and a trailer that weighs 6500lbs or more?

I wouldn't tow anything over the 5000# tow limit set by Ford.

The tranny is good for about 19,000 poinds I think, whatever the max towing for a 2002 Superduty F-450 anyhow. The limit is imposed by the rest of the suspension, a Lightning is rated lower than a regular F-150 I'm pretty sure. The only thing your tranny lacks that an F-450 Powerstroke has is one direct clutch plate and one reverse clutch plate, to be absolutely sure, decrease the superduty limit by 25% (it has that much more direct clutch) and you should be fine for the clutches, but again, its not the tranny that is limiting you.

From: Colorado,
I agree with Greg on the tranny.

But I think these trucks could pull more like a 3/4 than a regular 1/2 ton truck.
We have the bigger brakes, sway bars, better shocks. Not to mention the power.

The limiting factor is the hitch and short wheelbase.
At some point there is a safety facotor but the factory seems to think that 5,ooo is the cut off point.

engine and tranny cooling may be a factor but it is easily addressed.
