2003 Fog Light Question

I just bought some fog lights from a guy who bought them from Ford. The fog lights came with Sylvania 9140 (35w) bulbs. My current set of 2002 model fogs have 9145 (42w) bulbs. Did Ford change them? I used Sylvania Silverstar 9005 bulbs, which I know are higher watt bulbs, in my current & 1st set of 2002 model fogs. The 9005 pretty much melted the cover that covered the bulbs. A whole is even melting through one of my current set.

I am waiting for Sylvania to come out with the 9145 Silverstar bulbs before installing my new 2003 fogs. Will the 9145 bulbs damage the fogs being that they came with 9140? Does anyone know if Sylvania has the 9140 Silverstar bulbs?

Thanks,
Blake

You need to get a set of 2003-04 fogs. I had the 02 models on my 02 L, and both leaked and were replaced by the dealer with the 03-04 models.

The old 02 models had that stupid reflector in front of the bulb, and I can see how those could easily melt. The new 03-04 design doesn't have any reflectors near the bulb. The only Silverstars that will fit the 03-04 is the 9005, and so far so good. I love the 9005 Silverstar fogs! I searched before I bought them, and no one reported any melting or browning with the 03-04 style and 9005's.

ILLINI-SVT, I just bought some 03/04 fogs. How long have you been running the 9005 bulbs with the 03/04 fogs? When you got the 03/04 fogs, did they come with the 9145 or 9140 bulbs?

Thanks,
Blake

I've had the SS's in only about a week, but like I said I did the search and no one has reported any burning of theirs yet.

I'll look at the standard bulb number when I get home tonight. I don't remember the number, but I do recall that the wattage on the bulb was listed at 37W.
