Engine Shut Off!!??

I just had a strange experience....I took some garbage to the compactor about 2 miles away and when returning home I got into the boost a little (not wot) and the engine shut off just after it went into 2nd gear. I coasted to a stop, put it in park, and it started right up and drove home normally. No check engine light, all gauges work fine, everything appears normal. Anyone ever had this happen before? Any idea of the cause? I have an 01 with 41K miles and the only mods are 2.7 upper, cai, efan and chip but nothing done to the engine recently....fuel filter changed about 6K miles ago. Any ideas?

Contact Gregg Evans, he may or may not be able to help. I have read where he has addressed this type of issue as tranny related.

Hope this helps.

my engine shut off once getting on the expressway. I just coasted to a stop, turned the key, fired right up and drove away.

I got home, I pulled my chip, replaced the tape on it and put it back in.

I don't know if that was the problem, but I've never had that problem since.

(check for loose chip)

He is saying it happened right after the 1/2 shift, if I understand correctly. Iam kinda of thinking a loose chip, would cause this.

Is the chip just plugged into the computer, or is the chip plugged and taped securely into the computer?

**edit**

me and l-menace think alike

Thanks for the response, Suavy! The tranny has always been flawless (no trans mods) and it shifted fine prior and coming home. I don't drive it much especially this time of year...only when the weather is good! I keep the tank full so no condensation can occur and it stays in a heated garage. Must have just been some kind of winter "hiccup". Any other suggestions?

The chip has been in (secured with tape) since I've had it about 2 years. I noticed that the chip light (Diablo flip chip) remained on the whole time this occurred and I haven't changed positions in months.

Mine did this last week. I got on it and everything was great. I got on it again and I am pretty sure I might have hit the limiter spinning some and It shut down. No warning no stumbeling just shut off. I put it into neutral and while coasting started it back up.

I'm thinking fuel shut off because I hit the limiter??
I know it's not supposed to kill it but it did.

I dont think it's the chip. mine is firmly in place with tape to secure it.

Trucks running great and no problems since.

It's the chip. It's not clamping tightly enough. It's not loose, just the clamps/contacts are 'sprung' open too much.

Thanks for the advise! I'll re-install/secure the chip just to be sure!

I don't have a chip and mine has done it twice. My truck is completely stock except for Magnaflow catback and K&N. Once getting on the interstate on a roadtrip pulling my boat and once first thing in the morn on the way to work. Both times I had filled the tank ALL the way up right before. Dealer found nothing wrong both times.

Happened to me. Chip issue. When you pull your chip, clean the contacts before reseating and taping it in. I used a simple pencil eraser for the cleaning. Damn oxidation or something.

It's NOT always the chip. mine is secure and cleaned. There is another reason they do this. I didn't clean the contact or re-set the chip after mine did it and it hasn't done it since. A loose chip, or bad contacts would continue to malfunction if you didn't fix the problem.
