Alignment on 1999 Lightning

Hi guys,

Happy New Year to all.

Just need some advice on the front end alignment on the '99. I found another 1999 Lightning which had the intercooler changed at 10,000 miles, which makes me feel a lot better about this one. He's the original owner who took care of the recall and has all the maintence records. What a difference! On almost every Lightning I looked at there was white foam on the cap. Not this one....nice consistency & color. He also had a bill for $179 for an alignment kit for the front end, for the castor issue. My question is, is the front end on the '99 different from the '00 and up. And, what was the actual issue with it? Second, I went to the dealer he bought it from and they showed me that the intercooler was done, but couldn't give me a print out because I don't have title. They did give me the actual papers from Ford showing the recall and fix, but they didn't have the assembly instructions. I was wondering if anyone has the original assembly instructions from Ford and the recall for the front end alignment kit.

I was also curious about the gas mileage. What can you average on a stock Lightning with conservative driving?

Thanks and would appreciate any input.

MPG? I haven't a clue but it can't be more than 10mpg. I have a lot of mods and I enjoy driving the truck every minute (if you know what I mean).

I put just over 4000 miles on it this year.

Although my Lightning isn't stock. I think it may get better gas mileage with the SCT tune and mods, than the stock tune. I get around 13 mpg's in town and 17mpg's on the highway.

I don't believe that there is a seperate set of instructions for the I/C parts kit installation other than the standard Ford CD Service Manual set of procedures. I was glad to be able to use Kerno's hard-copy Service Manual when we did my I/C swap last month, although we only needed it for the torque specs & pattern. The '99 alignment specs should be the same for all of the years. Fuel mileage? Since it's gotten cold I've kept my foot out of the boost & I'm averaging 14 - 16 MPG.

From: Colorado,
My 99 averaged 15 MPG with a one time high of 17 MPG with cruise on for 200 Miles at 70 MPH.

Alignment is same on all. The wear problem stems from having a performance suspension with wide tires and wheels set to track specs.

An inter cooler replacement is just basic replacement. No special instructions. It ether works and dosen't leak or .........

Sounds like you found a nice one. Hope you are Happy with it.
How many miles does it have and the rest of the details?
