2004 Grille paint ? What color is Stock ?
2004 Grille paint ? What color is Stock ?
OK. Well Santa brought some street scene grilles and in the process of installing them scratched the factory grille. What color is that so I can touch it up ? It looks like DSG without the clear.
I have a clean 2003/2004 grille that is scheduled for paint. If your scratch can be sanded smooth, I'll be happy to swap with you. Metallic paints are hard to touch up. E-mail me if you want to do it. Two UPS trips are cheaper and a lot less hassle than trying to touch it up.

Where else in the world could you find such an offer. Lightning owners oare the best group of people.
Thanks Alot for the offer, but my scratch is pretty much insignificant to anyone except me. Not to mention the street scene grilles are a pain in the a$$ to install and I would very likely scratch another when re-installing.
Thanks for the offer.

If I had a DSG truck, I'd sure love to see how the grille looked with clear coat on it. One of the things that makes a painted grille look sharp is the gloss. The factory flat finish may be practical and seems to work ok with the various colors, but adding the gloss really helps.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but the grille is not DSG.
I checked with an experienced painter friend of mine - and he says that Ford does not publish paint codes for trim, so you are on your own. Also, its a flat-finish paint, not basecoat without the clear.
I would either - ignore the scratch, or find something close in a spray-can and spray into the lid & use a q-tip to touch up the scratch.
Other alternatives would include taking the grilles to a body shop & painting them a similar color, or painting them body color.
