Squeaks and rattles.
Squeaks and rattles.
My Lightning has a few annoying sqeaks and rattles around in the interior. They are the back sliding window, drivers side door panels and some parts under the dash. I only notice it when I am on a rough road or hitting a bump. It seems to rattle more in the winter time. Could it be because of the cold air make the parts shrink a little bit? What could be done about it? Is this a common problem that i am just going to have to live with? Thank you!
Can you say - Plastic! Actually my 03 is pretty tight so far - I haven't developed any of the clunks, thumps, bangs etc, that I see mentioned on this site. I have noticed a very slight plastic rattle around the drivers door on certain bumps in recent weeks - probably the cold. There is one advantage to growing older and losing some high frequency hearing - all my cars sound much tighter.
I did find on mine that a lot of the plastic buttons that secure the plastic panels, especially behind the seat were not pressed in all the way. I went around and made sure all of them were good and tight. I've also found that most rattles I hear are from stuff in the glove box or door pockets. Making sure wheel lock keys, pens, trailer wire harness, etc, are placed so they can't rattle around helps.

I agree kuks.
I wish someone made a nice sub woof with amp in one package that would fit in front on the hump. I am getting tired of the sound of my stock spks and had just upgraded the ones in my 99 a few months before I got the 04
clairion made one for a while but I haven't seen anything for the F150's that I like. We just don't have much room in these standard cabs. But then we don't have as much space to fill with sound.
I usually tune into my Bassani channel these days.

I've had a 2000 BLK L since October of that year. I have yet to hear a squeak or rattle out of the truck in 45,000 miles. It is really tight. I think a lot of it has to do with the Linex liner I had sprayed on right after I bought it. I know that wouldn't account for anything inside, but no noise there either. The only thing I did have was the infamous clunk. I took it back to the dealer three years ago and whatever he did fixed that problem. Good luck chasing down the noise - I know they can really be annoying.

The 2003-2004 Lightnings have the in-dash 6disc changer, the high pitch noise is a small fan on the back/side of the head unit. It's not on all the time so that's why you may hear it one minute and not the next.
I also get the ringing sound but i have an aftermarket radio and even with it off i still hear it. It seems like it started when it got cold out. I only hear it at about 1500rpm any ideas thanks.
