Gutting Cats

Was wondering about this. I did some research and saw mixed opinions. Check engine light will come on? How bad will it hurt performance? Im pretty much stock.

As far as power gains or losses I wasnt worried about that. I gutted mine so I would be able to run high octane race gas. Seems like cheap insurance to me. Ive had my cats done for a week and haven't gotten a check engine light yet, dont know why but it hasnt came on.

If your running stock boost levels and still have a stock convertor? I'm not to sure you'd gain much except make it louder. You'll loose a little torque down low but gain a little on the top end. And like I said with 8-10psi I'm thinking you really would'nt gain much of anything.

If your pretty much stock i dont see why you would wanna gut the cats.I dont think youll lose any power but you wont gain any either. The only gains would probably be with a highly modded setup.I also dont see why the check engine light should come on.If sound is what your after you should sell your catback, get a pair of glasspacks ($50.00)and take the money and get some more mods like a pulley. The sound from glasspacks is awsome!Leave the cats be.

because unless the rear O2 sensors are turned off with a chip, the computer would know the cats are not working properly

The cats heat the exhaust stream and chemicaly change it's makeup. The rear O2s will know.

You have to have an O2 simulator hooked up for the rear sensors
