Lightning on Autobahn
HI!... I was just doing some calculating on my DRAGMATH program
- 4800RPM
- 3.73 gear ratio (I figure it's a newer "L")
- Overdrive ratio = 0.71
- Stock tires = 295/45/R-18 = 28.45" tall
SPEED = 153.47MPH!!
Not bad for a big ol' truck eh? LOL!

The 1 problem with the autobahn are the "Geister Fahrer ". I can't spell it, but it translates to "ghost drivers". Cars going to wrong way at high speeds.
I saw a 1/2 hour on that subject on TV once. Apparently it happens every now and agian.
I saw the aftermath of a wreck once and couldnt tell what kind of cars they were b/c they were in a million peices.

That was bad a$$.. Thanks.
Now add a built block, 8# lower and a Whipple 3.3 or Turbo and see if you can hit 180mph.
THe lightning is limited by it's aerodynamics right? How much more HP would it take to reach 180? (HP not aero mods like Ruslow in his lightning hitting 180-190)

My aunt used to be a nurse in Germany. We were talking to her about all the "business" she probably got from the Autobahn. She said that they rarely saw crash victims from there because the vast majority of the people who wreck doing those speeds die at the scene. Pretty crazy, but makes sense.
When I was in high school, I went on a month-long tour of Europe. During the trip, we spent some time in our big *** bus on the Autobahn. Every now and again, the driver would say "look to your left/right" over the intercom - we'd do so just in time to see some crazy sports car or motorcycle whiz by in a blur. Freakin' nuts to be in a bus doing ~70mph and see a bike buzz by at 160(+)mph!

Autobahn
Hey guys,
Two days ago I saw the thread and the video on another board. I contacted Andre, because I was happy to find another Lightning owner here in Germany.
Andre sent me an answer and he told me that he got the truck in September and on the video the truck is completely stock.
Another Autobahn rules:
- for cars, slowlier as 60kmh, it is not allowed to use the Autobahn
- you learn in the driving school that when ever it is possible, you have to drive 130kmh it is called 'Richtgeschwindigkeit'.
In october I drove from Bottrop to Husum it is about 500km, I never drove slowlier than 100mph and max. about 1/2h over 140mph, I killed some Mercedes, BMW and ricers....very funny, because they couldn't believe that a truck can be so fast.
Thank you James from RWTD for the superb tunes, no pinging, no detonations, no engine blown. Although I had nearly all the time 14psi boost at high speed.
PS: Ok, we can drive fast as we want, but we pay 1,60$ for one liter fuel, this is not funny.

Hi all !
The Video finds the way
The Lightning is Stock with MAC Cat Back, thats all!
Water temperature was in normal area the whole time. I miss the oil temp gauge in my "L"
On the track, especially on 1/4 Mile race it´s more dangerous for your engine and tranny as a Fast Autobahn ride. At drags you give your car a hard, short and heavy acceleration.
I would never do an fast Autobahn ride with a cold engine.
At the red RPM area you would be right with saying "time to blow up engine" but a nearly stock Lightning will never go to the red´s.
Ghostdriver (Geisterfahrer):
Never seen, but sometimes heard it on Radio.
Greetz,
André

Total wahnsinnig!
Damn, that Autobahn looked busy - I've done similar on empty autoroutes in Northern France - then cooled off at the rest stops because the toll machines work out your average time between toll booths
Good to see another L-begeisterter in Europe
Mike
