wide band commander installed, question about a/f ratio

It is a really neat gauge and the pc interface it cool but the first thing I did was to find a long stretch of road and nail it. It went to 11.5 a/f ratio and stayed there all the way. My question is, isn't that a bit rich? I was under the impression that 12:1 was the optimum a/f ratio on the L.

By the way the temp was 60 degrees out when I did that run.

Another question is can I alter the tune that Johnny Lightning sent me for my predator (timing and fuel)?

Thanks guys

11.5:1 sounds great for an off the shelf map, I would be surprised if it was leaner because people would be blowing up their 5.4L's.

I'd imagine that if you're on great fuel you could remove a couple ticks and lean out the mixture.

EDIT: Just noticed you're in El Paso, horrible fuel... I wouldn't go much leaner.

12.0 is usually what tuners shoot for,but 11.5 is damn close for a mail ordered tune.

If you watch EGT's you could probably remove some fuel, just be vigilant of IAT and outside air temps as well.

what would be optimum EGT temps? I have never used one of those gauges before.

Isn't tailpipe sniffers always higher? So 11.5 pre-cat is closer to the 11.8 - 12 you see a lot of guys posting from dyno's that use tailpipe sniffers.

I wouldn't trust a post-cat a/f gauge, always weld in a bung and use that to check your ratio.

I have no idea what the best EGT is for an L but I'm sure that info could be found with a quick search on here. I'll know as soon as I install mine though
