Advice and guidance?
Hi,
I am 3 months into owning a 2001 Lightning which is now stock. There are holes drilled into the bed which appear to have held a NOS bottle installed by a previous owner. I can logically deduce it probably had a pulley and a chip - maybe even more mods. But looks like it was returned to stock before he traded it in. The truck runs great and have had no issues, but I'm being very tempted by the 2005 Corvette.
The practical side of me says just put a few grand into the L and save a ton of money. The other side of me says the truck was previously modded and the long term ramifications of that aren't known - plus you'll never get the weight and handling as good as the Vette. I do not drag race the truck and have no intention of drag racing it. It's a daily driver that may occasionally (once or twice a year) get on a roadracing course for a trackday.
So the questions:
If you had say $2000 to put toward the Lightning what would you do? What would you buy, from where? I can do all the parts installation myself. Please be specific as your answers will help determine my actions.
Recommend me a good tuner in the Tampa, FL area who is honest and knowledgeable.
OR
Scrap that idea, quit kidding myself and buy the Vette?
Thanks!

For a daily driver I think it's a simple choice really. A pick up is very hard to beat! There are so many things you can do with it compared to a vette.
I'd suggest calling Paul or Tim at www.razorsedgemotorsports.com and tell them what your looking for (on a daily driver basis). They'll set you up wether it be power improvers or suspension upgrades.
Personally if I were in your shoes I'd get a "chip, filter, pulley", lower it a little, and maybe go with a ruslow panhard set up.

I've thought about this on many occasions...
and I have come to this conclusion...
there are many more vettes than there are Lightnings... you are currently in rare and better company
When the c5 came out I thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. Now I'm sick of 'em -- They're everywhere. That's the way that the c6 will be in two more years. They are also having a rash of recall issues right now with the new vettes. (fuel lines or something... I don't really remember)
You can buy suspension upgrades for the L that really help the handling and "4x4" look. They are moderately expensive, but not even close to the price difference between the used L and the Vette. You may also pay twice the insurance that you would on the L.
And there is one thing that the L has that the vette will never have... A BED!!!
