eratic idle....

my friends 2002 L started acting up 2 weeks ago or so. On random rare occasions the truck would die when coming to a stop but start back up with no problems. Now (2 weeks later or so) the truck is hard to drive because it idles extremely low, about 500rpms or so in gear, and sometimes dips into the 400's. The truck dies probably 50% of the time he comes to a stop now. Even in park it idles extremely low, maybe 600-650rpms I'd guess. We thought it was his IAC and replaced it today. So far it doesn't seem to have made a difference. Anyone have any idea's?

Did you unhook the battery before you swapped it out to reset the computer.

I d/k if a battery-disconnect is part of the problem but that's not the way to do it. Remove the negative battery cable. Turn on the headlights and leave them 'on' for 5 minutes. Then turn the headlights OFF, followed by reconnecting the neg. cable. That will 'zero-out' the computer.

I'll try the "drain the power from the computer" method tommorow when we check a few other things. As far as the chip, it does have one but it's been in there for a few months and just now started acting up.

But i believe it can still somehow be thrown off.Have it looked at.I'm assuming u checked all vacum lines .Maybe pull the chip and reset the battery and see how it drives.Of coarse dont leave it out for long if highly modded with pulley.Just see if it drives any better.Do u have a scan tool?

We'll try that tommorow too, as for a scan tool, I don't have one for the L's only LS1's. THanks for the input guys we'll check things out tommorow and report back with the finding if any.

my money would be on the IAC. Replace it and see if it helps, if not, just return it.
