I don't think any of them actually build motors. I'm guessing they all farm the work out to their machine/engine shop of choice.

We do motors, but primarily for in house jobs. We stopped doing the mail order motors a while back when Ford jacked the price up on blocks and cranks. I refuse to use used blocks and cranks like some other vendors are doing, and people didn't want to pay the big price difference for our motors with all new stuff. The other problem was people usually need a motor because they just blew theirs. I do not believe in "stocking" motors, because each persons combination requires different clearancing, so stocking a "generic" short block was out of the question. I have been getting a lot of requests for mail order motors lately, so maybe we'll start doing it again.

As for who builds them, we have the local Ford guru engine builder do our short blocks to our specs. However, being an experianced engine builder myself, I've hand built some for customers in the past, but they were always given the option to have me do it or have my machine shop do it. I would never build a motor for a customer myself and sell it as if it were done by a machine shop.
