If you goto www.svtlightnings.com
look at the left side
click "how to"
go down to "Keyless Keypad"
click on it and you will see the hard wired key pad that works with the car running. Its what is on the car/truck from the factory.
It can be added to 00+ because Ford put the plug in the door but not the key pad.

If this is what you got http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33723
it works like a key fob with a radio signal and will not work with the car running.

That's what I was thinking. First I need to find the wire.

When I had the Lightning, I wanted to do that keyless entry keypad mod. (i like the looks a lot better after the clean install)
Can I have something like that installed in my Cobra? the handles are different. Or is it just a Lightning thing, and will it then work with the car running?
thanks much, Shane

I may know something that will help. I will be able to look it up, and post a pic, after we get the little one to bed, in about 45 min.

BTW: Can you get a factory key pad on a Mustang like the Lightnings have?

no you cannot. The keyless module does not have the wired keypad capability either.

The point is , is that the keyfobs do NOT work on the lightnings when the ignition is on.

When people add the keypad to, say a 2001 lightning, they are adding a wired pad like the lariat F150 came with, to the keyless module, and the interface is designed to work while ign. is on.

So they are adding a wired keypad like a lariat would have, and you are adding a wireless keypad that functions through the keyfob functionality.

This is what I found

www.downsford.com I couldn't find it on the site, you may need to call them. It may be the same pad you have now, but it mounts in the cowl.

If kidtriton is right about the module, then the only way to go is a remote starter.

My fob works while the engine is running. When I get out, I lock and unlock the doors with the fob (it's on a second keyring that has my mail key on it). My truck has no aftermarket alarm/starter mods to it.

the stang does not have the wires in the door to hard wire it so you will not be able to do the mod that you are looking to do with out looking to cut wires

yeah everyone else on here says their keypads do work when the key is on in the Lightnings. I tried it on a crew cab f150 and the keypads worked then too. I wouldnt be suprised at all if they work on the Lightning. kidtriton why are you saying the keypad doesnt work when the Lightning is running?
thanks, Shane

Shane-

I know for a fact that the keyPad on my 02 lightning works with the engine running. I have not ever tested whether the keyfobs work in that scenario... but I will

*going downstairs to the truck*

EDIT: after a quick test, the keyFob transmitter on my truck definitely does NOT work when the engine is running.

so you are saying the keypad works but the fob doesnt. So the # pad on the outside of the car works while its running, but the keyless entry lock and unlock doesnt work? Do I understand you correctly? Because I was in a crew cab f150 a few days ago, and the keyless entry (lock and unlock) worked.
is running.

I understand that the # pad I installed is just like a keyless entry fob. My concern is trying to get the fobs to work with the car running on the Cobra like they do on the Lightning. There has to be some kind of a wire that needs to be cut or something, I just dont know where to start.
