Dyno Day for Sac Area Lightning's
 

Force Fed Performance just opened a new shop at 7333 Roseville Rd. (near Antelope) in Sacramento. NorcalLightning and I checked it out last weekend and it's a pretty nice facility with good people. I'm trying to put together a dyno day for January 8th and am checking interest from local guys on the forum. We need 12 people minimum to get the 3 pull and $60 discount. It is an eddy current in ground dyno like a Mustang dyno... better than having some clown put your truck up in the air to dyno it. Reply to this post if you're interested and I'll try to reply back ASAP.

I've had my L dyno'd at their facility when they were in Yuba City. Keith (the owner) was pretty cool, and the other guys were really nice also. I've been over to the new shop already since it's right around the corner from where I just moved to and it's a really nice shop.

One thing I know he could use would be for someone to show them where to get a good tach signal on the L. They know where to get it on the Cobra, but last time I talked to his guys, they still didn't have the info. They can get accurate HP readings, but the torque reading will look like a dotted line that jumps around because the rpm keeps bouncing.

I've got my L up for sale so I probably won't dyno, but would love to come and hang out with some other L owners.

I posted this over on NLOC for the Bay Area Lightning Association (BALA) guys to see if they're interested. So far they have some questions about the facility.

1) Are any tuners going to be available?

2) What tuners do they support? I believe they do both Diablo and SCT, but can you check to make sure?

Looks like I answered my own questions :D I just spoke with Keith (Force Fed owner) and he told me it's better to setup tuning for a separate day so he can spend time making a proper tune. He tunes for SCT not so much Diablo. He use to do more tuning with Diablo software until recently.

The tapping into the tach can be solved by splicing into a line that will allow them to plug into there system. He said the splice would not affect anything as they are not cutting up the line just splicing into it with a pigtail of some type. Or he can make the dyno runs by MPH instead of using the tach splice technique.

G - I see that you already found my post. I just replied to yours a second ago. You are more than welcome to attend. There maybe a few other cars besides L's dynoing that day. It all depends on what we can put together. You should definitely stop by and introduce yourself!

Check to see if your truck is equipped with a "AET Test loop" on the pasengerside of the motor next to the #1 coil. If you have this loop then most of the time we have no problems getting a clean tach signal from here.
When dynoing we can always get a horse power reading by logging your dyno graph in MPH, but if you want your torque graph then we MUST have a clean tach signal. Some cars we are able to pick up the tach signal with a wand or a tach blanket, but not always. So if getting a torque curve is important to you then to be safe I would reccommend that you come in prepared. What I suggest is that you locate the tach signal wire at the PCM and use an T-tap so we can plug our spade tach lead connector into it. This will allow the dyno to recieve the same tach signal that the PCM is seeing and can assure you a torque graph. This is the same wire that one would tap into then hooking up an aftermarket tach or shift light.

Since I moved to Roseville and still work in Yuba City, I got something that was better on fuel ecconomy as well as fun to drive. Haven't been able to convince the wife that I really need both yet. HEHE. Actually 3 car payments and insurance on all 3 is a PITA and pretty expensive so I haven't put up much of a fight. I really just hope I can find a good home for the L. I sure have loved that truck. Here's a picture of the new ride.

I've dynoed my truck several times. We never had to tap into anything, I believe they just clamped their rpm signal over the wires to the coil pack.

If I remember correctly they tried that approach on my L, but it didn't work properly. Signal kept bouncing in and out. which is why my torque line looks like it does on my graph.

Maybe one of the big 3 tuners could hook us up with the info since we don't have them here on our coast. How about it Jim, Sal, or Johnny?????

Here's one of mine on the stock block. Seems okay and they just clipped over the wires I believe.
