Exclamation Tire question - new owner...

Hey all!

Just wanted to say hey, I'm a new '03 L owner and new to the board. I got it last friday, with 20k on the clock. It's dark grey, and I absolutely love it. Thing is, the Eagle F1's are toast. I'm looking for an alternative tire - the Nitto 555 is an option, but still $$. I can get the Bridgestone Dueler HP's for just over $100 a tire, and by far the best deal, but it's only a 285/50r18.

Does anyone have any experience running this size tire. Sitting next to the nitto, it's like a half inch taller, and looks just as wide (the nitto has more squared shoulders though).

Any suggestions?

Dan

buy crappy tires and you will kill the handling, stick and "feel" of the truck.

Welcome

You may want to do a search for more info but below is a good start......and as always your driving habits need to be accounted for.....

Here are the comparisons on the two sizes:

You'll see there is amost a 3% differential between sizes which is not recommended by most in the industry

295/45 Tire 1
285/50 Tire 2

Tire 1 Section Width: 11.61 in 295 mm
Tire 2 Section Width: 11.22 in 285 mm

Tire 1 Rim Diameter: 18 in 457.2 mm
Tire 2 RimDiameter: 18 in 457.2 mm

Tire 1 Rim Width Range: 9.5 - 11 in
Tire 2 Rim Width Range: 8.5 - 10 in

Tire 1 Overall Diameter: 28.45 in 722.63 mm
Tire 2 Overall Diameter: 29.22 in 742.18 mm

Tire 1 Sidewall Height: 5.22 in 132.58 mm
Tire 2 Sidewall Height: 5.61 in 142.49 mm

Tire 1 Radius: 14.22 in 361.18 mm
Tire 2 Radius: 14.61 in 371.09 mm

Tire 1 Circumference: 89.37 in 2269.9 mm
Tire 2 Circumference: 91.79 in 2331.4 mm

Tire 1 Revs per Mile: 731.1
Tire 2 Revs per Mile: 711.8

Tire 1 Speedometer1: 60 mph 100 km/h
Tire 2 Speedometer2: 58.4 mph 97.3 km/h

Speedometer Difference: 2.711% too slow Diameter Difference: 2.64%

All that out of the way....if $ is a concern you may want to look at the Hankook Ventus ST RH06....they run $170ea +/- a few dollars. E-Mail me if you need more info getting a set.

Most of the other stock size tires are over $200ea.

Ya, I can also get the Nitto 555's in the correct size for $184/per through work, I just haven't had any personal experiences with Nitto and I can't afford new tires every 3k miles, lol...

nitto 555's and nitto 555r's are different tires.

the 555's are 295/45/18 should last you 10-15k or so with normal "spirited" driving.

the 555r's are drag radials that are 305/45/18 and they wont last long.
