Type K Thermocouples are COOL!

My system pieced together from Ebay consists of one air temp sensors and 2 liquid temp sensors and brass housings. The range on these sensors are -20 to 2000 degrees and there accuracy is real good. There normally used for scientific experiments and kilns.

The type K are thick, right?

I tried some thick ones (on the Mustang) and they were slow to respond.

Can't see it being practical for daily use, but I guess it's cool to just plug in each thermocouple as you need to for stuff. How much did they set you back? Did you have to get a special Multimeter?

These are the newer mini type, they react real quick. Just touching the air temp gauge with my finger causes it to jump 20 degrees in like 3 secs. My simple Sears multi-meter had a thermocouple input, meter cost me $20.

The air temp sensors (Watlow), cost me $14
14" Extension was another $14
2 liquid temp sensors cost me $11
100' of thermocouple type k steel braided wire was $30

I still need to get 2 more female mini type k plugs. This stuff is expensive if you buy it at regular price. Just type Thermocouple Type K on ebay and surf away. Only buy the mini stuff, the large crap is old hardware.

If you plan on building a system of your own, plan on buying all Type K hardware so it works together.

I have that same multimeter, and the type K thermocouple accessory.

As much as I like Craftsman tools, the thermocouple sucks. It's slow to respond and questionably accurate. Plus the tail coming off the probe on mine has a loose connection.

It should be close enough for your application, but don't trust it any more than +/- 5 degrees F.

I'm not using the thermocouple that comes with the mutlimeter.
The stuff I bought from ebay is much better, it's all Watlow or Omega products.

It's for reading water temps and air temps.

Yes you could, you just need to buy the correct high temp probe.

Found the missing parts for my system from
http://www.omega.com/

With the 4 Mini Jack panel I now can install the system. The panel will be mounted under the dash out of site. All this stuff is very small due to it all being mini Type K.
