Hi-Flow Cats???
Hi-Flow Cats???
About 6 months ago I had problems with my truck(sputtering, check engine light).I took truck to the dealer, tech changed 2-coil packs, took it for a spin and the same problem sputtering, felt like bad tranny problem at speeds at about 30-50.Hooked it back up to the computer and same codes, said same coil packs they just changed were bad,so the tech tells me he thinks it's my cats but they have to do some test before they order cats.He tells me to take it home and bring it back when i wanted to leave it.I take it home problem seems worst then ever.2 days later while driving check engine light goes off and truck is running fine.Problem went away for about 6-months,now it's back again.Took it to dealer today and he tells me it's dumping to much fuel on right side of motor, tells me I need new cats.I would like a little more sound out of my exhaust but nothing to loud.Does anyone have just hi-flow cats installed???Where is best price and brand of hi-flow cats to buy?

Magnaflow seems to make a decent set for the Lightning, but I don't know about your truck. They are louder and have a burble to them. Doesn't the "we don't know" diagnosis kind of bother you? The cats have an O-2 sensor before them to read the exhaust before the cats and another set after to see if the cats are working properly. Systems like the Predator wll improve your drivability a lot and allow you to turn the O-2 monitoring function off. If turning it off fixes the stumble, it might be the cats. If not, they are ok and the problem is elsewhere. Cat function does not come and go quickly. It sounds like your problem does. Time to see a tuner instead of the dealer.
I have LFP (Bassani) hi-flow cat pipes and a MAC catback on my truck. The hi-flow cats definitely raise the exhaust note level up a few notches, but you get used to it.
The LFP pipes eliminate the two front cats altogether. Got mine for less than $450 about eight months ago.

Did you buy their Long Tubes?

In other words is the cat dead cause its eaten too much fuel ? If so changing the cat wont fix the problem - you will still be dumping tooo much fuel - next cat will die the same way.
If the fuel is being dumped cause the cats are bad - how does the dead cat cause the computer to dump MORE fuel -- Im confused .... I guess it depends on which cat is dead and if that caused the o2 sensor to go out
Can anyone help me understand this ??
