ever race a 280ZX Turbo?

Somehow, against my better judgement, I got involved in a debate about racing in the rain, which in my opionion is a very bad idea.
Anyway, I got roped into him wanting to race and he says he eats lightnings for lunch........he said I better have the basic mods (filter, chip, pulley.....) or it won't even be a race.

you guys ever race one of these things??? He says he's pushing around 17 lbs of boost.
Just want to know if I'm going to get totally killed.....

It depends on what he has done. I've seen those cars (older models) run deep into the 11s here. With 17 psi and the usually BPUs, I would say he could run a pretty solid mid- low 13....

Just general speculation though....

he also said he beat an LT1 on spray......not sure about that one, but his car certainly sounds like it could be fast.

I may have bitten off more that I can chew on this one....

Oh well.....if he kills me, then it looks like I have to start throwing mods on the L.

Well, one thing to keep in mind is that if he's arguing with you about racing in the rain and saying that it's a sound idea, he probably isn't the brightest crayon in the set. How old is he? There's a chance he's just a ricer talking smack.

I once had a kid tell me how I could ever street race in my truck. He said, "How do you weave in and out of traffic in this thing?"

By turning the steering wheel?

And this is one of our future generations?

shelpdoggSVT, get some short tires like 26" ET streets and take him to the track. (Your advantage is coming off the line)

I haven't even saw a 280 in years. Race him and see what happens. The worst he can do is beat you and who cares if he does? Like you said, just get more mods.

Yeah.... I'm not gonna lose any sleep over getting beat, the only thing that bothers me is this kid is ****y as hell.....talks a lot of *****. He sounds to me like he is young, but you never know.....

he will want to go from a roll, which is fine as long as we run it from a dig as well.
wish me luck guys......

One night on my way home, I had a 240sx turbo pull up next to me and try to race. We ran three times. I know it was a turbo from the loud blow off valve. It was quick, but not fast enough to keep up. Each and every time I raped him. He gave me a thumbs up and left.

I know that guy.. I've seen him around here racing everyone and talking a lot of ish......

He is frequent on the Tamparacing.com website and always talks crap and when he loses there are always several excuses.. and the car is an absolute beater

NOW, there is this other guy called Wolf, yes WOLF, that has one in mint condition and has junkyard mods and nos and I have personally seen him put the smack down on cobras,L's,even a LOTUS ESPRIT on the courtney campbell bridge.... This guy means business.. but it you were to race a simply modded 280zx, you'd smack it down all day...

of course there are the jap engine wizards out there that know how to crank high hp out of small setups.... but it's nothing to lose sleep over

A ricer is a Honda Civic with fart pipe and a 2 foot wing on the back. A nice looking turbo Z car is not.
