Texas personalized plate owners, have a question...

I currently have personalized plates on my Cobra that I would like to transfer to my truck if possible since I am going to sell the Cobra but I noticed my truck plates say "Texas Truck".

Question to those of you with personalized plates is do they say Texas Truck on them? I didn't have a problem transferring the plates from my Mustang LX to my Cobra but they were both cars not trucks.

Thanks.

Here's a plate off a buddy's truck... if your's looks like this, you should just be able to transfer it over. You still should be able to transfer it no matter what, but they might have to cut a new plate if they need to distinguish between a car and truck.

I am picking up new custom tags this afternoon - I will ask for you. Or you can call the Special Plates branch of the Texas DOT. The number is (512) 465-7611.

If it's a personalised plate it wont say truck on it. My regular tags do says "truck" on them.

Shouldn't be any problem transfering them over.

§ 502.404. OPERATION OF VEHICLE WITHOUT LICENSE PLATE[0] OR REGISTRATION INSIGNIA.
(a) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a passenger car or commercial motor vehicle that does not display two license plates, at the front and rear of the vehicle, that have been:
(1) assigned by the department for the period; or
(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the period.

An offense under this section is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $200.

Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.

Don't know of any way around it. It sucks having to have a license plate on the front of such a beautiful truck. You can run without the front plate but eventually you will get a ticket.

In TX you do have to have a plate. It is not a moving violation so if you get caught it won't go on your driving record. However the fine I heard is pretty large if you do get caught.

Thanks I figured there'd be a way around it considering some nicer cars don't have spots for a front plate.

the plate doesn't have to be fastened to the bumper. You can place it anywhere as long as it faces forward and is visible to the police. You could stand it up in your windshield, for instance.
