I'd think you'd have to prove you were damaged by them not coming out with a new Lightning. I'm not up on the lease figures, but you probably paid less per month than if you bought, and the residual value is usually pretty reasonable, so you could buy it at the end of your lease?

I would imagine Ford has the resources to drag whatever attorney you (we) could come up with through the mud and back, only to probably prove that there is little merit to the lawsuit.

But then again, I dunno.......just speculatin'.

Promissory estoppel

A doctrine in which a non contractual promise may be made enforceable to avoid an injustice.

Notes on Promissory estoppel:
Promissory estoppel is used where, although there may not otherwise be a enforceable contract, because one party has relied on the promise of the other, it would be unfair not to enforce the agreement.

Promissory estoppel is used to enforce charitable gift pledges where the charity relies on them.

An example of promissory estoppel is where a foreign student declares that she is unable to return to college because she is unable to raise enough money to cover all the costs especially with textbooks costing so much and I agree to provide her with the necessary textbooks if she returns. When she returns, I cannot back off on my gift since she has relied upon it to return. In this case promissory estoppel substitutes for consideration and we have a binding contract.
While I hope that you get what you wanted from your contract. I doubt that Ford left any wiggle room in the lease.

Dont think that the concepts of unfair or injustice will be enough to convince Ford anything

Interesting. Since this deals with a situation without a contract, the lines are much more blurred. It is also probably also a more difficult hurdle to get past, as compared to a contract, which is (supposedly) black and white. Like I said above, I'm willing to bet that Ford has already researched the subject before they worded their lease, and is ready to drag whomever through the mud. Even if you have an actionable issue, I'm betting that with the blurred lines coupled with Ford's resources ($$$), to say you have an uphill battle would probably be an understatement.
