About to order 20's, Have a Boyd Qust.

Ok, after months of researching wheels and looking at all the wheels everyone has on their L's, I like the Boyd Timeless 2's the best. Although I must say it was a hard choice after seeing all the L's on this site.
The only place around here that sells them is Discount Tire. They have been on the phone with who ever it is that they get the wheels from (Boyd?) and they can't tell me what backspace/offset I need. Or a price for that fact....Hope its less than retail price.
From what I have read on here (search), I need a 6 inch backspace (close to the 5.8 stock) for 20/9.5's?
I am going to try 295/40s for the tire. Not sure on brand yet.
I just wanted to make sure they are going to get me the right fitment.

Thanks

Funny you ask this....

I have a set of Boyd T2's being prepped for my L.....
(I'm having the centers color matched to the truck & keeping the outer lips polished, I don't want the 'Bling' effect.)

I bought mine used so I don't know the offset or backspacing but they came off of a L'
I'll post pictures when I get them on in about a week or two.

I will be using a 315/35 20 on the rear.
The comparables vs. stock are below:

On the front I'm using a 275/40 20.

Wow! A 315! I bet that would look cool. How well do you think that will work with a 9.5 inch wide wheel? That brings me to a new question also. I wonder if I can order the T2's in a custom width. Like maybe a 10 or 10.5 wide.
I have not "called" Boyds. Maybe I should try that. I have emailed them several times over the last couple weeks but have not got a response from them. I have a feeling that if Im not the Discovery Channel or a Super Star calling they probably wouldnt have the time for little old me... I will try calling them on Monday.
I would love to see pics of your wheels. I have found several different posts on here using the search. I sure like the looks of them. My fav wheel of all time that I have seen is the HRE wheels. I think it was the 546's. They were going to cost alot more though. Also like the 20 replicas but didnt want to go backwards in rim width.

We did a test fit on the truck w/ the 315's and had no problems.
They actuall do not look bad considering it should really be on a 10-11 inch wheel to square off the sidewalls

If I'm not mistaken I think DonsBolt runs a 315 as well ??

I will post pictures of the wheels as soon as I get them on....

As far as custom sizes we wanted to run a 20x11 in the rear and called Boyd for a price on 11's (One of my best friends owns a wheel & tire shop) it was over 1K per wheel :-(

So....I stuck w/ the 9.5's since the price was too good to pass on.

The HRE wheels definately look awesome.

I am running 295/40/20 on all four wheels on my truck.

Next go around I am going to put 315/35/20 on the back and 275/40/20 on the front. The 295/40 fit great, but I want a little more meat on the back and not as much on the front.

IMHO....A Lightning needs more sidewall than a 315/35/20 or a 275/40/20....the tires just look too small for a truck.

I prefer the 295/40/20 or I really love the 305/40/20 that I run.....but this is just my preferance

Got a call back from Discount Tire today. They told me a price of 598 a wheel for the timeless 2's in 20x9.5 with 6 inch backspace. Estimated build time is 4 weeks. I am going to order them on friday. Hope this is a good price.

Before you go and order the rims in 20x9.5 you might want to concider going 20x10

In my case I have 315/35/20's on the rear which are a little over 12 inches wide. These tires require a rim at least 10 inches wide

while on the front I have 275/40/20's which are only 10.5 inches wide, but can still fit on a 10 inch wide wheel

While the 295/40/20's look like they will fit on a 9.5 inch wide wheel. if you later decide to try a different size tire like myself or Art Man are running, you might run into a problem. Where if you get a 10 inch rim you can go allomost any size tire.

Sounds like too much $$$ to me. I have heard a lot of people get good prices from http://www.discounttiredirect.com

I've bought a couple of sets of wheels from them and they are always very competitive on prices.

If you are going to do any open track events or autocrossing, consider the wide rears/narrow fronts very carefully. These trucks already understeer like a mother. This tire combo will likely make it worse.

Like Don said, I would go with 10" wide all around. That way you can experiment with tire sizes and see what you like.

We have a scale @ the shop and I will be doing weight comparisons as follows:
Stock wheels & tires vs. Boyd T2s & tires (Continental 4x4 SportContact ....we have a set off a new Cayenne Turbo that upgraded wheels & tires so I'm taking advantage of a freebee for now)
Tire vs Tire
Wheel vs Wheel

My wheels will be done early next week and I'll have the info then.

Can the T2's be ordered in a 10 inch? I asked Discount if they could special order bigger that a 9.5 but they said no. Not sure if they checked into it or not.
