Question Volant Air Intake ?

When I purchased my 2002 L, it already had this on it! I have been talking with some vendors about getting a tune, 4#, FTVB and a catback. Some of them have said to remove it, other's haven't said anything.

I have done some searching, and I guess I am just trying to determine if I should replace this with something from JDM, JLP or LFP. It seems most people prefer the open elemenent type.

However, with everyone looking at the C&L Intake Tube, isn't that very close to what the Volant already has in terms of the connection between the TBody and Filter?

Does anyone have any real world dyno testing on the differences of these CAI?

Here is a picture of the intake for those that have never seen one:

Thanks in advance

i have one but put it on because it is a 4x4 with Lightning motor. after some research i believe there are better flowing systems but i was worried about mud and water being as it was 4x4. if i was you i'd look into something a bit more free flowing, this being if you are going to crank up the boost.

I thought the volant was up there w/ the JLP box in terms of performance...........

I still went w/ JLP though.

I have a Volant and it works just fine. I would, however, get a new filter with a powerstack if you can. As with any setup, I would add a ram air setup as well. Even though this thing is completely closed off from the engine compartment heat, it will still get hot as you sit at idle etc (as will anyone's kit). The ram air will help when you get moving. In other words, get a second source of air to pull in.

And yes, the volant intake pipe is doing the same job as a c&l pipe.

My question to any vendor here: Why would you tell someone to remove a Volant kit besides the fact you want them to buy yours? Do you have evidence that it doesn't work? (Disclaimer: not meant to be a vendor-flame post) Just curious.

I got my Volant system back in June. I like the closed off system better. I live in a new area which is fairly dusty so I also added a pre-filter to it. I would love to put one of the powerstack filters into that system but I am not sure which one would fit. Have to research it a bit more.

All in all though, the system works great! I felt a small SOTP gain from it.

An S&B powerstack filter might work in it. It's 9"x8"x6" with 6" inlet. I need to do some measuring but that's what I'm looking at.

I am looking into a S&B Filter as well.

Do you have any pictures showing the ram air and the details?

Thanks
