Who has melted a spark plug?

I'm installing an EGT sensor and trying to figure out if one bank is leaner then the other so I know which side to stick the sensor on. If you've burnt a plug, post up which cylinder it was in so we can see if there is a pattern.

Thanks!

3, 5, 7, 8 to the tune of about 500 bucks this time.

8 is the most often metled plug.

What is the result of this condition; detonation, lean A/F, timing too aggressive, nitrous, wrong plugs, inadequate tuning...?

I can only speak of my case!

I went to the dyno to get some base numbers to send to a tuner to tweak a chip. While on the dyno we went to wide open throttle and I heard the truck sputter at about 3500rpm.

That was all it took got in touch with a tuner who told me to check my vacume lines with attention to the brake booster lines. Sure enough that was it didn't let me get full fuel pressure which caused a dangerous lean condition. A split second melted 3 spark plug lobes on the heads. Had to have them heli arched and remachined with insert added.

First trip down the track, 40 degrees is most likely the problem

Dayum! So that's how you treated those after you bought them from me.

Ouch; thos Bricks didn't do so good. I would look into them more; I heard they have been miss-cross referenced/sold as the wrong hear range. It would be something to look at.

3rd and 4th one back on the drivers side are the worst for fuel flow. If you have less than 1/2 a tank, and a hard pull street or strip then you can uncover the pickup in the tank. When that happens the lines can run dry and that is the end of those plugs and maybe worse the motor.

That happened to me twice at the track (road racing) The truck appeared to backfire. I'm only running 12lbs of boost with a conservative tune on Denso's IT-20. The truck is running fine. Should I be concerned?
