Can I run w/o a muffler in VA???

I want my exhaust much louder than my dual 40 series.

It seems like there are a lot of members running w/o a muffler.

Can I just go to my local shop and get stright pipes, or will they just laugh in my face???

.........BTW, the county that the L is registered in does not require emmisions.

ive never heard of anyone running without mufflers, except for a few that have cut-outs, but that is only temporary

as long as their are no leaks, the vehicle will pass state inspection in the State of Virginia without mufflers.

I think there may be a clause about the exhaust having to exit behind the cab though.

you must have catalytic converters though.

and even though you pass state inspection, that doesn't mean that you won't get tickets for noise in your area.

there are plenty of laws, ordinances, etc that are done by localities that you may have to abide by or be found in violation of.

good luck.

later,
chris

my truck dosent have any mufflers( not by choice, previous owner put on straight pipes). anyways its really loud. i mean really really loud, it will scare people, especially when there window is by the pipes. its extremly annoying on the highway, to the point of wanting to shoot myself after about 5 miles. oh yeah, forget about talking on the cell phone even under moderate acceleration..........just somethings to think about.

i getting a cat back......i cant stand the drone of it anymore.....

Everyone: Thanks for the swift replies.

I have a ***** mini-van I plan on using as my daily driver so I'm not worried about the noise.

Any reccomendations on where to get the straight pipes put on?

I visit the Va beach area most weekends, which is close to North Carolina and I live near DC and Maryland.............. Will a shop do this for me if i'm not a regular customer or friend?

Most people who have done this have switched quickly back from the ear damage and the loss of torque

If its that annoying with the 4 cats still on, I agree thats no good.

I'll do some single muffler searches. I'm not a fan of my true dual setup.
