Ram air?

I notice alot of you guys have the shaker hoods on your L's, are they actually functional ram airs or just looks, and do you that have them actaully paint your whole vehicle for the new hood? Or just the hood? And does the shaker hood actually add more then a cold air intake. I think the shaker hoods just look so awsome.

The shaker hood is functional.

It routes air around through the hood itself and onto the air filter thus reducing air temps slightly.

It wieghs more than stock.

It comes in gelcoat finberglass, so it needs to be painted.

The hood WILL be the most looked at piece on your truck.

Well i know what it does but i didnt know if they were functional, my 81 vette has ram air, what companies make them, and can you just paint the hood, or do you have to spray the hole truck?

I was gonna ask the same thing.
...and what would be a good choice for a CAI to go with a shaker hood? I assume 'open air'..? LFP, JLP, AIRRAID...?

functional, yes they draw air into the motor from outside the engine compartment...., supercharger will do the ramming...,
and some just have a shaker scoop taped to the hood ....for the "look".....sweeeet !!
ram air hoods have the same design goal as any factory air intake system which is to draw air from outside the engine compartment. Any aftermarket intake system would benefit from the same design..., as Grimace has stated. I also have the same.

paint would be a personal choice, ... no, it would not be necessary to paint the whole vehicle if you add a little scoop to the hood.
