Question Sweet smell at start up?

With the weather on and off again this time of year up in Canada, the L sits for a couple of weeks at a time in the garage...I don't drive it in the snow.

I fired it up this morning after sitting idle for 2 weeks and the exhaust smelled like "nail polish remover" Is this normal? I always run 92 octane...best I can get from the pump here.

Thoughts?

A sweet smell is anti-freeze, either from the engine cooling system or intercooler.

No kids...and they wouldn't be eating in my truck if I did. Come to think of it though I could be classified as a big kid...young at heart anyway.

The coolant explanation makes sense, I checked both radiator and intercooler fluid levels and they are where they should be. It does not appear that there has been any coolant loss what so ever.

I started it again this morning after sitting overnight and there was no indication of the "sweet smell". It only appears to happen after sitting for a longer period of time.

I'm stumped...

I still have warranty on it and have not done any mods so may have the dealer take a look the next time it is in.

Thanks for you help.

Boy I'd hate to overreact since your still bone stock. But a sweet smell is almost always coolant. Maybe the IC is seeping fluid over a great length of time and that's what your smelling? Maybe this ought to be pressure tested to make sure it doe'nt have a small leak? That's what I'd do anyway..

How long does it last?
I would check the intercooler system first, if it is a diferent type of smell.
BTW I'm from Calgary also, looks like we can get at least one more weekend in before winter.

The only time I ever notice it is when it is in the garage. When I leave it outside, I don't smell a thing. I will be paying more attention now though.

Putter - Snow is in the forcast for next Friday so it is looking like a little less than a week left before she goes in for hibernation. I haven't seen a lot of L's in Calgary. A couple of red ones and a blue. Thought there would be more in a "Red Neck" town like this.
