Mustang & Dynojet numbers?

Ok, I just hit the Mustang dyno again this weekend for some numbers. The best I could pull out of the L was 342rwhp and 458rwtq. This is with the mods in my sig and 16 degrees timing and a/f of 11.3-11.4 from start to finish (props to sal since it was 50 degrees in the shop sunday).

To me, those numbers look WAY low even for a Mustang. However, 2 weekends ago the same dyno had a stock 04 L with 1500 miles only put down 306 horse. Is this dyno telling lies or what? I also did the 1/4 mile simulation on it (only one run) and pulled a 12.99 @ 105.6 on bald F1s with a 1.94 60ft.. Granted, it is just a simuolation, but that number seems close for my mods.

With numbers and times like that, anyone care to guess what a Dynojet might tell me? I was hoping to see more like 370 horse on the mustang and then would figure it would be close to 400 on a dynojet. Only reason I care is I want to have a 400/500 truck. Looks like a trip to the dynojet shop might be in order.

Opinions?

Chris

I've heard 7-10 percent correction factor, but I think the true
HP of the eddy current beats some inflated number anyhow...

But I am in the minority on that ... Dyno's aren't about numbers, they
should be used to assess changes.

A dynojet measures rear wheel torque and flywheel hp. Hence the 13% difference between our dyne (mustang) the the other.

You might need to reword that Tim. Dynojets measure RWTQ and back out RWHP, they do not give flywheel hp.

And on a simular topic, Dynojet does offer a eddy current add on to their model 224 dynomometers now, so once people start using those there wont be all this big fuss about difference between Mustang and Dynojet. The eddy brake allows for resistance to be added for a more real world result.

Our local tuner figures a 21% diff between his Mustang Dyno and the local Dynojets. Several people in my club have made pulls on both and the results seem to back up that claim.

I did 356/407 on his Mustang Dyno... we'll see what that equates to for an ET at FFW this weekend.

I wish I would have a had a baseline to test my mods against, but I didnt. On the other hand, I have numbers from one tune to the next. JLP vs. PSP. PSP made 70rwhp more than the JLP tune. This was all accomplished by having enough fuel i.e. JLP tune was 16.5:1 a/f PSP is 11.3:1 a/f and both with 16 degrees of timing.

Funny, if you have fuel in the cylinder, it makes power, go figure.

now I can see what my next round of mods does against the mods I have now.

Hey jakhammer,
I enjoyed your post. I believe we're sharing some same ground. My first ever dyno experience was in June -- at least a 90 deg. day- hot and humid. At a Mustang dyno-- I ended up with 341HP-445TQ. My engine/trans mods compared to yours are:
JLP Forced Air, Stock TB,90mm MAF, JLP ThunderPipe, Magnaflow catback, FTVB & pan, #4 pulley, Denso IT22's, Predator "90mm & Pulley"tune @10%timing retard(=16-17deg) & 5%rich(=11.9%AF). I had trouble with 2 different tuners custom programs and the Predator program turned out to be the best acting one. Funny since the Predator's "stock" and "pulley" (only) program were useless.

Since the majority of the posts here state DynoJet numbers, it's good to see other Mustangs #'s so close to mine. Like KCinAZ said, this shop said his Mustang was 20% lower than the DynoJet at his friend's shop. Who knows???

PS: My 1/4 best @ bone stock was 13.69 @ 101.5 (@1/8 was 8.83@81.14). Since the above mods were added, I have ran at a horribly slick 1/8 track==8.43@85.1 My next purchase will be wheels, slicks, and bars.
