Thumbs up New Denso's at a much smaller Gap, so far I LOVE IT

Talked to Johnny and asked his opinion, he recommended
me going to a smaller Gap, or actually leaving them as they
are out of the box, I checked each one very carefully
@ .032 - .034, The ones I've been running for years I set to
.038 - .040

I got to say I am very impressed with the idle and response
so far, man I jumped on it from a roll 3 times today and
all hell broke loose, WOO HOO................

I've been a very firm believer of A LARGE GAP, but man I'm liking
the response of the smaller gap now that I FINALLY LISTENED

I did some niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice smokeys today "and from a desent roll
too"

Any opinions or your personal findings about running a smaller
gap ??? I guess for my race day power level (@ 525 / 640) it was time to go to a smaller Gap anyway, but man around town,
I'm LOVING IT TOO

I'm thinking that a set of "new" plugs is what made the big difference in throttle response and general overall feel.

As for gap, reading the posts on what differences can be felt by gap, I'm starting to wonder with a 4-6lb lower if these trucks' ignition system is marginal at .040 or larger.

Heh.

I remember when Jim and crew fixed my "miss" on the dyno.

My spark plugs were dealer gapped at somewhere in the .8's.

lol

I've been saying this all season! My tuner had me close the gap down.. and WOW did I notice a difference. I did'nt realize it had a little flutter in the upper rpms til I did. Now it's as smooth as silk from idle to 5500.

I also have Densos @ .034 and it Idels great and runs even better. I pulled them after 2,500 to check them and they are as clean as the day I put them in. I run a 4# lower, tune, filter also form JL. I put down 404/508 and run consistant 12.7s @ 107+ with this set up on F1s.

I wouldn't. They should be fine with that gap. Rob went with an entirely different plug and probably has more mods.

As Dan said, no reason to panic Wicked or Fast

My Former Denso's were Gapped at .038 - .040 and have been
in my Lightning since the Summer of 02. I've ran 4lbs,
4+2, with and without Juice, diff amounts of Juice, 10-12 diff chip programs, massive timing, low timing, inbetween timing, etc...
AND
they were flawless in ALL set ups, including idle to WOT hi RPM.
AMOF I was always told a larger Gap ='s more power, thats why
I ran a larger Gap. I have ALWAYS believed in a larger Gap, especially with the Multi Spark (that'll fire correct up to .100)

Of course as time moved on, we all have found out that the more boost and power we have the more change of Spark Blow Out,
hence the reason Tuners started Gapping smaller.

All I'm saying is I have been told before to gap smaller and
never tried it, now that I did, "WOW" is all I can say, so far I really like it. Unfortunately we may have to wait to spring to see how they work on the 1320. Johnny has been tuning me perfect for quite some time now, so I had no problem listening to him, and was interestd in hearing others experience, SOUNDS LIKE ALL ARE HAPPY with the smaler Gap, but no reason to worry if they're larger

It has been mentioned around here before that the coil packs do loose some power with age, I have even read here that one tuner changes the coil packs at the 3000 mile mark on his track lightning. This could have an effect on plug gaps. Maybe its not the mods that causes a need for tighter gaps....maybe its age.
