Stock Hood Cost?

Hey guys, I am getting my new hood painted and installed soon but I had someone ask me if I wanted to sell my stock hood once I had my new hood installed. What should I sell my stock hood for?

Thanks

Dealer list is $376.60, fordpartsonline.com lists reduced price as $286.22, BOTH UNPAINTED. recently, i had a Ford dealer estimate at 500.00 to paint (using FORD paint, etc.) a hood.

if yours is in good shape, i can't see why 300 bucks or so is not reasonable.

Did you get any Vasoline with that $500 hood paint estimate?

Also, Ford does not make paint, and if they did, I probably wouldn't use it, as the big mfgs are many years ahead of them in terms of product development.

Ford Dealers are probably using PPG paint, FYI.

I would guess $200 to $300 to paint and clear a hood on BOTH sides.
Note that your stock hood is NOT painted on the bottom. At most, it has a tinted primer (red for red trucks, etc). My black truck I don't think even has that. I think it just has the electrostatic primer that the part is shipped in.

I have seen stock hoods going for around $150, so if you get a lot more than that I'd be impressed.
Unless you really need the money, put that hood in the garage, as you may want to return it to "stock" at some point, especially if you ever trade it in.

By the way, do not store the hood on its end (like most people do) -- leaned up against a wall with the front edge of the hood up and the curved windshield end on the bottom/ground, as the corners of the hood can easily get bent. Store the hood leaned up against the wall ON ITS SIDE! (You cannot believe the number of bodyshops I have been in with hoods stored on the points...)

Thanks for the info. My stock hood is in good shape except for a big scratch towards the front and center of the hood where my wife accidently scratched it with her keys while she was coming out into the garage and her leg gave out while pregnant. I was just glad she was ok even though there is a big scratch I see everyday . So I am thinking of asking about $250. I don't think I will go back stock.
