I have never seen a memo, letter, or any document come through from Mgmt using the word "scrapped". Just wouldn't happen.
So Gregg, that makes sense.

It is kind of silly. I follow old cars (I have a 51 Ford F1 and a I'm looking for a 68-70 Torino Cobra) and for these cars to have resale value, or be "collector" cars, first, they have to be almost bone stock, second, the onoes that are truely valuble were almost never daily dirvers. If you think it's gonna be worth something some day (and surely they will), park it now and don;t mod anything. Which not many people will do.

I tend to think there are better investments than a parked truck.

If that type of internal or external mail came from one of the managerial stall in FOMOCO. They should be fired.

BUT!!! for those of us who love our lightnings, this could actually increase or better hold our value.

Enough already. This will not affect your resale value.

How do you figure that?

As was said. For these trucks to have a significant increase in value they will have to remain stock and do very little daily driving for many years. Also there was over 20,000 Gen II made and quite a number of them are up for sale, check the classifieds. So that does not help either.

When someone says resale, they are not talking about making a mint off their vehicle. They're talking about the vehicle retaining more of it's original value than it would have, if there were a new Lightning forthcoming. Look at the Turbo Supras, the Impalla SS, and even SS Camaros. They have retained quite a bit of their original value, now that they aren't being made anymore. They are not collector cars.

This is exactly my point, they sell for as much as $50,000 or more. Now do I expect to sell my L for 50,000? NO, But I do think I could sell It for close to what I paid for it, if no Gen 3 comes out. Now dont get me wrong, I would rather the Gen 3 come out than gain resell value in my truck.

Cars are NOT an investment. The value is going down. The reason its going down is that people arent buying them. The announced delay of the next one hasnt impacted the prices at all yet. All cars depreciate - I have never heard of any vehicle other than supercars appreciating in value in the first 5 years.

Not sure what you paid for your 03 but Ill be amazed if you get anywhere near that.

MY $0.02

I understand that FORD can't bring the GenIII L that soon. They did with the GenI L and then 4 years later they came up with the GenII. I guess they have to let the current GenII owners really enjoy there current L's otherwise they will have the dealerships full of GenII L's because lots of people will traded them in for GenIII L's as soon as they come out.

It all about business and they will have better business if they wait and give Dodge and Chevy a chance to have there share then Bang the GenIII will come out and leave them on the dust.

All that said, you would be amazed at what some cars bring, relative to their initial cost. I've seen Mavericks go for $15K, Pintos for close to $10K (there is a very big following for them, believe it or not) and run of the mill late sixties Galaxy 500s for close to $20K, it's nuts. In my latest issue of Hemmings, there is a 1970 Boss 429 that sold at auction for $145,000, which put it right out of my price range, thank you very much. If I find my torino cobra, I'm looking to pay $25,000 for one that's gonna need some work.

Dont even try and compare the Gen I to the Gen II, totally two different animals. When I state resell value, Im only talking about making maybe 5k at vehicle sale, rather now days some Lightning owners are lucky if they even make out. I bought a 02 with 15800 miles for $22,500.00 just 3 weeks ago and it had at least 2000 dollars in cosmetic upgrades and the truck is flawless. In my opinion I got a steal, and Im more than confident that I could slap on a forsale sign and park it on the nearest buisness strip and sell this same truck for 26k. But if they do discontinue or scrap the Lightning, Im pretty sure I can get $28500.00. People grow impatient, and most arent willing to wait 3-4 years for a Gen III so there in the market to buy whatever they can get there hands on.

Leaving your truck close to bone stock is a huge selling point. I ran across a few lightnings with a ton of great mods...FTVB,Tuners and pulleys etc... First thing that came to my mind was... "This truck has probrably seen the track a few times or street raced" Excatly not what I wanted, does this mean the owner did such a thing? Not always, but the upgrades were not in his favor for someone looking to buy a truck that was babied. After hearing the SVT annoucement I have decided that my truck at most will see a tuner for stock performace and thats it. I dont plan on keeping this truck forever but the way things are looking now, I do plan on making somewhat of a profit.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I bought my truck to drive it, race it, and someday, blow it up and get a better engine. I am keeping this baby till it craters in beyond repair.
