e-fan question

Is 2000 cfm adequate airflow to replace the engine driven fan? I see that most efan kits are 5000 cfm or better. Is that what is needed or is it overkill?

I'm running about 2500cfm right now and I don't think it's enough. It will keep the temps down for the most part but if you start it up and let it run and sit there after about 15 minutes it starts to get hotter than wanted so 2000 is not enough.

Never had a problem with heat running that fan and I ONLY use the low speed setting.
No idea how many CFM's it moves.

(I live in Michigan where it hits 90's a few days a year but is very muggy and humid)

I only use the high side of my fan also. I replaced the fuse that kept blowing with a 40 Amp circuit breaker adn it hasn't popped once since then.

I have the flexalite and it draws up to 5500cfm's at high speeds and about 3500cfm's at low and uses a 40 amp fuse. Is it over kill probably but I feel cooler with it

I never had a problem with the hi-setting either...

I did have to upgrade the fuses to 40a/14v circuit breakers. (both of them.)

What part of the wiring melted?

The reason I used the low setting is that I wanted the HI-speed to be used at the track.
I haven't yet, but will sometime, hook up a toggle switch to the hi-speed. That way I can pop the hood and flip a switch and let it cool down between runs....

Whether or not cooling down is good between run? I dunno.

Went to autozone and found the wiring kit for 36.99 plus tax, and found a fan for 20 bucks. Now I guess I have to spend the other 90 bucks on beer for the install.

E Fans CFM

I too have the Flex fans and based on what you said in you post I would think that 2000 is not going to cut it. On a hot summer day stuck in bumper to bumper traffic you will have big problems. My flex fans cooled my 03 5.4 down from the needle almost at the "H" or overheating mark in a matter of minutes sitting in my garage. You want to have that extra capability in case of harsh, adverse conditions

Then does anyone know what the minimum cfm for our truck should be? What does the fan in soap's/l-menace's post put out. I think it's the Motorcraft RF-86 for the 4.6L V8?
