about to buy a 00 lightning... intercooler ?

im very close to buying a 2000 lightning. i have been doing some research and i was wondering what exactly is the problem with the intercoolers. id like to know if was an actual recall and if there is anyway i can check to see if my car needs it or has had it done. thanks.

It was a recall. You can get an Oasis report from a dealership if you give them the vin #. That should tell you whether or not it was taken care of. I'm not sure what the statute of limitations is on the recall so it may or may not be covered if it hasn't been taken care of.

It was a customer satisfaction campaign!

It was a limited time ofer and has expired for over a year, meaning Ford will not give you one cent toward this repair. Trust me I battled with Ford for months over this.
Including
Calling EPA bacause ford was not honoring its EMISSIONS warranty (the I/C fluid nuetralizes the catalytic convertor and poof you have a smog producing beast)
calling the NHTSA that this leaking fluid could cause vapor lock resulting in a crash.

The best I could get is the dealership to give me the parts at cost after I documented everything and showed it to them.
