Question after tune radar dectector goes crazy

After I had my tune done on Saturday, my Escort 8500 radar detector does a full alert on Laser all the time. Could this be some type of RF interference?

Has anyone had this problem before???

What kind of chip do you have?

If it was RF interference from the chip, it would happen on any tune because the operating frequency of the chip and processor does not change.

If you have wires coming out of the chip to a switch, try moving them around to a different location and see what happens.

The only problem I had with a Superchips flip chip was poor radio reception.

I've had to disable the Laser Detection on my 8500. It was going off just about every time I would punch the gas and the truck would downshift. We don't have many laser guns here in Arkansas and I decided to disable it until I could figure out what was going on. Does the same thing when I'm driving my wifes go-cart (Mitsubishi Lancer)

I had 3 Bel's over the years and they would always begin going off nonstop, and I ended up bashing them to death...

I've come across this before, and according to some reading material, excess noise in the power line can cause false alarms. There was a thread, or a website, that indicated that if that was the case, you could install a small capacitor to filter these noises. I'll try to find it.

oK, I just found it, the article only mentioned that a tech at 'bel' said to install a filter cap , inside the fuseholder. Not very specific. I thought I could do better.. sorry

I also have a Passport 8500. I'm running an Autologic Chip.

When I'm driving thru a Parking Garage and my Radar Detector
is connected, Car Alarms from parked vehicles go off.

Kinda Stange

Guys,

Chips will not emit enough EMI to cause radar detectors to go crazy and to throw radios off. About the only thing that I can think of that would cause a drastic increase in EMI from your vehicle is resistorless plugs, upgraded spark system, audio equipment and radio equipment.

Mine started doing this after I added a chip and TR6's. Escort knows about this problem. They fixed mine under warranty. I'm not sure what the fix is. Prolly a filter or something.

It happend after I did all the mods below. When I tried the Diablo flip-chip last week, the 8500 went crazy on X band.
I switched to the Predator same day and now it goes crazy on Laser. Everything else was identical.

I'll call Escort and ask them what to do. I'll tell you what their answer is if they are open tomorrow.

Exactly. Something else is the cause here.

Ok I called Escort and they said it was some type of electro-magnetic interference. If you have it under warranty (1 year) they will fix it free, otherwise $49.95. They put some type of filter in it.

I replaced my 8500(no problems just wanted a better detecter) with a V-1. Neither one has given a problem and I have a JDM Superchip. The 8500(connected to the cigar lighter plug) is in my 97 F150 and it has a Superchip too. I hard-wired both in my 01 L to a 12v connection behind the rt. kick-panel.

I have the 8500 K50 for almost 6 months with an Autologic chip. No problems at all. Works like a charm and has saved me from probably 5 tickets. Did you have the detector plugged in when you put the chip in? Try this as it may be the cause with the computer.
