Transmissino diagnosed, now I weigh my options.

My trans is ****ed. Slips under 1/2 throttle or more.

I have some options.

Stock spec rebuild. The cheapest route.
Factory tech monster in a box with billet converter. Ford tech puts it together as side work. 2nd most expensive.
BTS trans rebuild. Expensive as hell, but bullet proof.

I am still regular mod (chip pulley intake exhasut) stock block truck. Built motor with spray this time next year possibly.

What would you do?

Unoid... please use more letters, words and punctuation.

BTS is way overkill

I'd go with either a monster box if you can pull the tranny yourself, or a monster box rebuild kit if you are paying someone to pull the tranny (not a lot more labor to put it all together and you'll save a couple of bucks).

The monster boxes are essentially bullet proof until you do some seriously bad things to them.

I've got a Level 10 Tranny from JLP.
Its the same tranny they are running in their truck and doing well with my 530hp motor. Not as expensive as the monster box.

I don't understand. The BTS and Monster Box are both about $4K, right? Is there any other reason (besides loyalty to Gregg) that I should prefer the MB over the BTS?

Dealerjim told me the BTS is $3400 and I believe the MB is about $3200.

Both have torque convertors. The BTS is a PI and the MB is Gregg's own flavor.

Both have 2 year warranties.

samiam513,

How many miles on the truck did you have when the trans started slipping?

lol when i pulled off the track and got out my truck had 20,000.3 i remember that clearly.

at 18k i was also racing, and at 19k me and a girl got stopped for "indecent behavior" in the truck.

i wondering what is going to happen at 21k?

Just so we are clear, I meant no disrespect to Gregg.

Quite the opposite – I already know that Gregg deserves the praise and loyalty that he gets. I am just looking for a technical explanation of why the BTS is “overkill" over the MB when it is priced roughly the same.

If my tranny went, I would install a MB.

I was going on the understanding that the BTS was significantly more expensive than the Monster Box.

If they are the same price, I haven't done enough comparison to know which I would go with.

All I know is Gregg's work holds just fine, so anything above it is overkill to me.
