Ok Guys....what Mods For Me 99l??
Still having to work on the exhaust leak thing but I think I will have it welded up tomorrow where I found the black exhaust stain on the connection to the cat pipes and see if that cures it so I can get some rest inside on my rear instead of outside all night on my back under the truck.
Ok....got me a 99L,49k miles bone stock.I read all the posts about mods and such, but most have waaay more than I plan on doing. So all you guys that have or have had the 360 hp L's like my 99 give me your thoughts on my ideas here..
1.Diablo tuner that allows for all the fuel, timing, shifting changes and also reads codes.
2.4# crank pulley
This is about all I plan on doing to the truck since it will be hauling me and my bass boat all over the south east each year.I want to keep it as reliable as i can but still get it up to par with the stock 03 L's.
I might go with exhaust in the future, but for now I want to spend as little as I can since I wrote a big check for this one I just bought.
I have read about changing t.body or mass air but the gains dont seem to be as much as a chip and pulley.Ok...is the programmer as good or better than a multi. setting chip?
Is there a programmer that is going to work better than the Diablo?
What will a 4# do to the gas mpg?I assume it would not change it much as long as I was not making boost and stomping it while just driving around.Correct me if I am wrong.
If there are better mods than the 2 I have above that cost about the same or less, what are they?Yes I will do some street racing and maybe some track times, but my primary concern is keeping it fast but reliable. My 94 has a fresh rebuild on the tranny and a original Lightning rear end that is rebuilt with a 3 yr warranty. These things had to be fixed since I puked out all the tranny fluid 2 times and kept replacing spider gears in the rear until I destroyed the whole rear end.
So I dont want that problem with this one.

Buy the predator from one of the Vendor's on this site and get a custom tune. Your timing will be around 19 deg with the pulley tune and that is too much. The 4lb will not affect fuel mileage unless you get into boost, then look out, it'll be gallons per mile!

I fyou're going to reflash with a tuner, then you might as well convert to the later 90mm MAF and do a cold air kit.... just my two cents. I have yet to raise the boost on mine, but opening up the intake side on a blower motor never hurts and the MAF is less than $200. I've also heard that if you're planning on towing as much as you are, a 4lb. pulley maybe too much. Talk to your tuner, but I think better safe than sorry.
yes...safe is what i want.I have not drove my truck all day because of the darn noise coming from under the pass floor.I dont hear ANY of the noises I have read and read about as far as the plug warnings.Nothing coming from under the hood or in front of the firewall. So many seem to have some leak they hear around the connecting area on the exhaust when running but never while parked. It is driving me nuts.New truck and Im scared to drive it.
As far as the pulleys...would a 2# pick me up any and offer safer conditions?

I agree with iceman302. I would get a 90mm MAF and a cold air kit. I would also do a 2lb pulley with a diablo predator or sct 9100 tuner (with custom tune). You should also be fine with a 2lb pulley for towing, (if you go bigger, I would recoment taking the pulley off for towing.) You should be really safe with those mods, and be able to get 360 out of your truck.

03whitelightning has it right.... a 2lb. will be fine. If you insist/want the 4 lb., then get a multi tuner like the SCT 9100 and an interchageable pulley set up.... the best of both: 2 lb. ring and one tune for tow, 4 lb. ring and tune for play.
I can't beleive no one has mentioned a FTVB the "seat of the pants" feeling is alot more noticeable than with any other mod. I think the VB is a must have for any L
I have a 4# with no chip and do alot of pulling but nothing over 1000# anymore and if you take it easy the boost gage never gets into the boost range.
