Sir Micheals roll pan

To those who have the SM roll pan or even someone with a solution,

I have my truck in the body shop right now for some damage that was done to it a few months ago..........but anyways, while it is in the body shop it is getting the Sir Micheals roll pan painted and installed. My question is.........what tricks are needed when installing this roll pan to make this pan line up with the smooth corner pieces. Now, the reason I ask is, when I went to inspect the truck on Friday.........they had the pan installed (somewhat) but the top edge of the roll pan looked to far back and the bottom part of the roll pan wasn't secured. The manager of the body shop said his guy was having trouble mounting the lower part of the roll pan because the brackets were not long enough to reach the mounting point. Is there a need for some spacers of some sort at the top to push it foward some........and what would be a good solution for the lower mounting points.

Thanks...............Mark

Sir Misfit and my Misfortune

I posted this a few months ago. All I can say is I'm glad it's behind me. IMO Sir Michael's is JUNK.

I ordered the Sir-Michael because I wanted the look. My truck was at the fabricator so I told them to fit the pan. It's a bolt on right?

Then I get a phone call:

1-They have to rebuild the lip because the whole pan is too far in

2-Unfinished welds around the licence plate

3-The caps and pan don't line up

4-That ugly lip on the plate frame has got to go

5-The tailgate is round and the pan is straight, so the gate doesn't clear

6-The caps don't fit well and there's nothing to bring them in so they have to be modified, re-glassed and a bolt added in because the caps stick out like wings on an airplane ready to take off.

7-To get a proper gap between the pan and caps metal must be added to the pan.

30 hours+ later I have a perfectly fitting pan but this is no longer a Sir-Michael's product. Maybe I'm fussy but IMO this is totally unacceptable. The company who puts this out is a total disgrace and this product is "JUNK".

The people who worked on this were total professionals and have done incredible things on my cars. They could have built one from scratch far cheaper than what it cost me to modify this garbage. The on-going joke throughout this ordeal was "This is a bolt on..."

If I was lawyer and had time to spare, I would sue them. It is unconscionable for a company to put out a product like this.

Sincerely,
TB

You guys should hear how I really feel about this.

Ya know... I heard nothing but praise for this product right up to the point that I paid a lot extra to get the kit, when they were 'impossible' to find. Right after I finally found one, and paid out the nose for it, I started hearing nothing but bad. I have been saving the install for when I find a hood I like. Maybe I'll just scrap it and leave the rear stock. I don't know. I don't want it to end up looking like crap and costing an arm and leg to get half-way decent.

I'm with TB on this ... if it wasn't for the talent
of the body shoppe I used, it would be a disaster.

As it is, it still scraps the tailgate in the center and
has worn the paint off both tailgate and rollpan.

But by the time we realized how un-bolt on it was
it was way too late.... My advice? Wait for Terry's
new one.

I had lots of problems trying my self...but its aftermarket after all...and to me its worth the trouble.

Its not hard to make work when you do it this way.

Install the end caps first...then set the pan in place, use spacers between the pan and the truck where it screws down. The center top of the pan will have to have downward pressure on it before bolting to the truck.

The center top has to sit lower so it wont rub, mine clears by about 2 cm...but thats enough not to rub at all. Once thats all in place and level with the end caps...you set the bottom corners in place with some small "L" brackets...they will allow you to adjust them to sit just right. You can use small wooden wedges to get the "left to right" spacing on the pan just right...then the gap will be even on both sides.

also, if you need a longer screw...make sure its a flat headed one like SM supplies you..the bottom of your tailgate will hit when down otherwise

Terrys will be out soon enough.

It has the look of the Sir Micheal and the Fit of all the other Pro-Glass items.

He already has the prototype done, mold done and a few sets done. He just has to button up the fit from the mold.

This will not happen for a few weeks as he is getting 4 vehicles ready for SEMA and he will be at SEMA.

He told me to call him on Nov. 10th.

Um, who is Terry (does he have a website)? Sorry, I'm a new guy interested in the roll pan you mentioned.

Thanks!

Terry is the owner of Pro-Glass in Indiana.

He has created some awesome hoods for the F-150 (Shaker, cowl,etc..)

He usually does a few trucks for SEMA.

He has done all the work on my truck and when I brought him my truck with the "BOLT-ON"(Yeah Right) Sir Micheal Rollpan he called to say it doesn't fit the contour of the tailgate and the endcaps do not line up properly with the rollpan. So he basically redesigned the kit out of glass for the perfect look and fit.

Pro-Glass is known for good fitting quality products and I do not see the rollpan being any different.

He is a pic of the prototype that he made the mold from.
