How to remove fan...

...I'm on the way to the store to pick up 2 electric fans that I plan to wire up myself. Anyway I haven't taken a good look at the fan assy on our trucks but figured I'd ask here before I get into it, so does anyone know how the fan is removed?

If the fans are the same as other 150s, as they look, they arent hard to remove. they are left handed threaded. Loosin the clutch from the pulley, then with it totaly unscrewed remove the two bolts that hold the schroud and remove them both at the same time.

Here is a pic of my stock fan removed

Whay I did to remove my fan was

I took a big Vice Grip and grabbed the shaft from the water pump. Then took a big adjustable wrench and used that on the nut you see in the picture. Once I removed the fan I then removed the shroud to get the fan out.

Yes they are reverse , or lefthanded, threaded. You loosen them by putting pressure clockwise.

Well I'm trying to get the fan off but it doesn't seem to want to loosen. I've gotten the shroud out and all of that but still can't get the fan off. I'm attempting to loosen it clockwise by going by Mickey_shouse's recommendations but what gets me is that in Don's pic of his it looks to be standard right hand threaded??

It's only 41 ft lbs tight,so it should slip right off....

I agree with you. the threads LOOK normal (Right handed)

Notice that everywhere ELSE the manual cautions and advises
that the threads are left handed. I wonder why they aren't
flagged that way for the fan???

lol thanks guys well I have now successfully tightened it to the point that I need to go buy a special tool to hold the waterpump while I remove it. Either way I still put the electric fans on and they seem to be working great! Cost me about $120 out of my pocket for a dual setup where 1 is thermostatically controlled and also have a manual switch for the track.

I am truly sorry that i gave him some wrong info. I was goin by the way that i had to remove the fan on my 97 4.6l when i added electric fans. I looked it up in the manual and it said left handed threads and thats what i went by. I guess that they changed the threads to right handed later on. Sorry man i didnt mean to tell u wrong.
