thank you Trojan man! new MAGNUM sized drag radials

ok, so the title was corny, but these are indeed some large rubbers:

ET Street® Radial Sizes:
Part#___Size_________Equivalent
3752R.....P235/60R15.....26x9.50-15
3753R.....P275/50R15.....26x11.50-15
3754R.....P275/60R15.....28x11.50-15
3757R.....P325/50R15.....28x13.50-15
3762R.....P295/65R15.....30x12.50-15
3763R....P315/60R15...30x13.50-15
3793R.....P255/50R16.....26x10.50-16
3743R.....P275/40R17.....26x11.50-17

Summit lists the 3763R as being 29.8" tall, 11.0"wide

Other than lots of gasoline, I haven't purchased anything for the truck in quite some time, it was time to make a purchase. I scrounged up the cash for some new tires. I've been running a 28" Hoosier full slick with varying results (admittedly, probably due to my inexperience, not a problem with the Hoosiers). with the hp and the trap speed that the truck has shown so far, It's getting to the point where I need to move up to a taller tire regardless.

In an effort to try something different as well as bring some new info to the board I decided to give these Mickey Thompson Street ET drag radials a try. I saw them last year at SEMA when they were introduced. I have been hearing good things about them through the grapevine. I haven't seen it for myself but I'm being told that alot of BFG Drag Radial users have switched to the Mickeys and gained as much as .5 in the 1/4! I know this sounds unbelievable, but it got me curious. I called MT and asked them directly how them compare (yes I know they are selling the product and may be biased) and they told me that they usually see gains of about .4 over a comparable BFG. the MT drag radials are softer than alot of their full slicks.

not only did these tires cost about $25 to $50 per tire less than a comparably sized slick, but if they work, I'll be able to LEGALLY drive to and from the track on them if I want to.

so anyway, maybe it's a mistake, but I'm going to give 'em a try and see what happens.

coincidentally MIR ( www.mirdrag.com ) is holding it's annual Ford Fever Classic this weekend. it has a Lightning class, the rules specifically indicate DOT approved RADIAL tires only. so weather permitting, I hope to be giving them a try this weekend. the Lightning class is for 93 to current trucks and unfortunately also specifies ONLY ONE POWER ADDER. Nitrous OR Supercharger, but not both. so looks like no nitrous for me, but hopefully I'll get to try the combo out at JDM day in a few weeks.

I should have 'em mounted up to the Bogarts tomorrow, so I'll post some pics and results from the weekend track outing (weather permitting) as soon as possible.

if anybody else has any info or experience with these tires, I'm interested to hear some input.

some more info: http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/press_11_17_03.html

later,
chris

P.S. the MT tech guy suggested that I start out with them at 12PSI! eek

sounds a little low to me, I'll probably start around 16 and see how it goes.

They look awesome. I want to try some but don't want to grind my calipers down. This is probably a stupid question, Did you grind down your calipers to fit your Bogarts? Has anybody come up with a caliper we can use with 15 inch rims?

tks

'fraid so. some people do it differently, but here's how I did mine. not for the faint of heart. Alot of folks understandably question the safety and strength of this procedure. but prolly 15 or 20,000 miles of daily driving later, no problems so far:

Hey Chris, I'll be there this weekend. I have the Silver Lightning and I will likely be somewhere around the JPC Racing booth. My name is Ed keep an eye out

I was thinking about running, but everyone will be on DR and I'm on F1 running mid/possibly low 12's, not really gonna be much competition.

BTW, they hook like a sonofabitch. My buddy went 1.5x in his T-type with them.

don't be afraid to run on your F1s.
last year they only had 5 trucks and all but one of them were in the 13s if I remember correctly. the fastest truck was running like 12.80s or something, but he broke a driveshaft on Saturday and went home.

I had to work last year on the Saturday of the event, I attended Sunday but since I had missed Sat, they wouldn't let me run in the Lightning class, only the bracket class. I ran 12.30 or 12.40 on F1s there on my stock motor.

either way I'll keep an eye out for you.

ha, thanks for the encouragement, but with the SINGLE power adder rule, I'll be stuck in the high 11s/low 12s.

It will depend how I feel when I get there. I ran pretty consistent mid 12's last time I was there, we'll see.

BTW lemme know how those MT's work because I've been considering them myself.

Nice soft compound, slightly taller for better trap speed (without running out of RPM) and DOT legal. I like it! I wish I could be there and wish you the best of luck.

Oh: Normal people should not own anything with 699hp and 915 Lb/ft. But I've always looked at it this way: When people know you're crazy, you don't have to apologize any more!!!!

Ive been wondering about this for a while. What is the biggest size tire the L can fit? Im not talking about on the stock rims. I see all these Cobras with 315s and even (at least one) a few bigger. And here all I got are whimmpy 305s. I need wider tires!

Last weekend at orlando I saw those exact tires run 7.70 @ 186 on a mustang with a T106. I also have a set....going on a mustang unfortunately.
