How to lighten the Lightning by 10 pounds

The stock Lightning wheel and tire weigh in at about 65 pounds. The stock spare which is on a steel wheel and is quite a bit larger in diameter than the 295/45-18's, weighs about 55 pounds. Since I happened to have a set of alloy wheels that came of my 1999 Lariat and a set of 235/60-16's off a Benz, I tossed that combo on the scale and it came in at a sweet 45 pounds. Not only is it lighter than the factory spare and closer in size, the tire is rated at over 1700 pounds, which is more than enough for use as a spare and will be kinder to the posi as well. Oh, I have three more wheels and tires, so e-mail me if you want to lose 10 pounds and still have a spare.........

Cool idea.

With runflats, you can trash the spare, jack, and winch - permanently. And I've used the spare tire crossbrace for a diff cooler.

Do they make runflats for our trucks? If so, what brand or specific ID # would I ask for?.....Thanks .Bert.

Roadside Assistance and a RollBack tow truck work well too.

Tim: How do your "run flats" ride? I understand the sidewalls are a bunch stiffer. And, aren't they the OEM tires on the Vette? I'm not expecting a Benz ride on the truck, but I don't want to make suspension compliance in the rear worse than it is already.

Don't runflats generally have more road noise?

On a lighter note (terrible pun, I know) you can also save 22 grams by deleting the #5 Snap ring on the low reverse clutch drum, it's only there as an assembly part (keeps the planet from falling out until the inlut shell is installed) and serves no purpose whatsoever in the tranny.

the locking lugnuts that weigh a bit more (x4) and tehn you don't need
to carry the tool (about 2 oz.)

You guys are ALL missing the obvious...

Can anyone say Ex-Lax?

Quick and 'easy' 10 pounds!

Kern - good tip on the spare - I'd like to pull mine off along with the winch, but I never got the key to the lock. I can't use it if I needed to (which I have...)
