Angry Need a new battery.

My luck, I have had the truck only a year and its time to get a new battery because the old one is throwing in the towel. I had it checked out today because last night when I went to start it the engine slowly cranked over and the guages did a sweap. The guy running a test on it today was getting 12.5 volts and 0 CCA.

So, whats a good long lasting battery. I was recommended on getting one with 750 to 850 amps(or something?)even though stock it has 650. I was also told to get it replaced before it gets cold(which doesn't help because of the 40 degree temps we been getting ). What are you guys running?

The Optima Yellow top is an excelent battery, but it's a little on the expensive side. I've always been one to get the biggest CCA battery I can fit. I'm currently running a 1000cca battery in my Navigator as I have a reasonably powered stereo system. If you run a lot of accessories and listen to music while the truck is off, look at a battery with a large reserve capacity (around 120) also.

The optima betteries are very good, but a little pricey.

The best regualr batteries are Delco (hard to find) or
Die Hard (Consumer Reports rated the Die hard pretty high).

Where can I get one at? I use the fan alot when the engine is off so I prolly would need the large reserve.

Summit Racing carries them (1-800-230-3030). Normally. you'd want a starting battery (a red top), but if you are looking at running things for a while with the ignition off, a yellow top might be best. I've never had any trouble starting a vehicle with a deep cycle battery. A contemporary fuel injected vehicle starts much faster than my LS-6 Camino.

I use the nascar exide 2 year free replacement battery. Haven't had one last more than 14 mons. here in AZ. They only last about 2 summers. I am on my second free battery. Can't beat the price.

Isn't your factory battery still under warranty?

Bought my 01 new in May of that year. Now has 75,950 on the original Ford battery. Been buying Optimas for over 10 years as replacement batteries for my vehicles. Will continue to do so.

Well, I still have my original battery since 1999 and over 130,000 miles. The thing is, I've been noticing the gauges doing a full sweep first thing in the morning...

Could my battery be on it's last leg?

You're the first one I've seen with anywhere close to my mileage. Wanna race to 200,000?

I just put a new Motorcraft battery in after 5 1/2 years (and 134,000 miles). Started cranking slow on chilly mornings, so... $90 for the one with 850 CCA, $70 for one with the original 650 CCA, so I got the 850 and now it really spins nice on cold mornings!

The gages will always go full sweep every time you start it.

This is fun: Hold your trip/odo button in while you start the engine, then keep holding it in a few seconds until you see 'TEST' on the odometer. Then punch the button several times and it will toggle through a systems test, RPMs, MPH, etc.

With all the stuff I have done to the truck, I wouldn't think any dealer would warranty it. Who knows though.

Race to 200,000K? Sure.

LOL, well this is the first time I noticed the gages did a full sweep.

Truck still cranks quickly so, no new battery yet.
