When I e-mailed NGK, they told me that they didn't have a direct replacement for our plugs. The iridium plug indicates .052 gap from factory. That's not a good sign.

The stock Motorcraft plugs are made by Denso and are a long life version of their iridium plug. That's why they perform a little better but are more fragile and not as long lasting than stock.

The TR55IX would come gapped at .052". The TR5IX & TR6IX come gapped at .038".

The original plugs that came in 99 & 00 L's and probably a model year or 2 newer had platinum plugs. I don't know if they made a change after that or not. As you can see from the pics that I posted the TR6IX burns pretty cool and it's definitely colder than the stock plugs that came in my 2000 L.

So, the NGK site shows the TR6IX as stock replacement. Is that actually colder than stock?

I'm still going with the TR8IX's because I'm paranoid about detonation.

I have a set of TR55IX's that I didn't ever install. If anyone needs these, I'd be willing to give them to whoever for shipping only. They do no one any good sitting in my shop!
