keeping her cool at the track
keeping her cool at the track
You guys are always saying you let your truck cool down after each run to get a better time. So where is your engine coolant temp at when you actually begin your run? If there's more than a few cars in the staging lanes I'm not sure how the heck you guys actually keep your trucks cool right up til your run. I doubt you guys are pushing these 5k lb monsters all the way up to the water box! Just curious... I was trying to keep my truck cool at the track recently and I let it cool down and when I was in the lanes I would turn my truck off so it didn't idle. But after starting and stopping a few times it seemed the truck would actually stay cooler if I just left it running!
Just curious as to the techniques you guys use to "keep her cool" at the track. Personally I'm not interested in doing any cooling improvement mods, not yet... I don't want to fool with icing the intake, or cubes in the coolant tanks, electric fan, etc...

I let mine cool for about 1/2 -to- 3/4 of and hour. Running the e-fan for the first 10 minutes or so after shut off.
Then try not to idle too much before getting to run. Generally my temp guage is in the normal range and just a shade below where it is when cruising down the hwy. (I have a stock 180 t-stat)
One small thing that can help if it's hot out is to remove the plastic rad cover.
