Weight Reduction

I dont recall ever reading much on putting the truck on Atkins....

so what are some tips for losing weight? I have the spare tire, hitch and jack perminatly removed....

but what are some other things we can do? I have heard of people removing tailgate and passenger seat at the track, but anything else for normal everyday driving???

I spent my weekend parting out a totalled 99, so I got a pretty good idea of what all is there and how much it weighs. The supprt inside the rear bumper is very heavy. If you don't plan to tow with the bumper, cut the center section out of the support. you'll need to pull it out of the bumper to do it. The steel spare wheel and tire is actually 8 pounds lighter than the aluminum wheels and 18's. The spare is 55 pounds and the four on the ground are 63 pounds each. The upper rear shock mounts are massive cast iron pieces which could be replaced with fabricated brackets. The front bumper support could be cut and trimmed to lighten it. The entire bed, less tailgate, is only 260 pounds. There is a very heavy brace that runs crosswise in the dash. It is probably 80 pounds, but is also structural.

One thing I found out for sure. It is built, uh, how do I put this? - like a truck. There's no easy place to take off weight. The best way to lighten it by a hundred pounds is to find a hundred places to lighten it by a pound.........

excellent observation...... "roll pan" or replace the bumper supports with aluminum. I agree .. to lighten it by a hundred pounds by finding a hundred places to lighten it by a pound.
