Question want to install a 2nd race only fuel system

Has anyone put a 2nd fuel system in there truck to use only at the drag strip??

I know I will need
a fuel cell
fuel lines, filter
fuel pump
a switch that will disable the main pumps, and also power up the racing pump.

I have wanted to do this for about a year, but Jim didn't want me to do a race only system. Well I have decided that I am going to do this real soon.

If anyone has done this, or knows what pump, switch, and how to set this system up. any advice you can give me would be appreciated.

By the way

That part of it would be easy but what about the fuel? You would have to tap into the fact lines and at the same time keep the fuel going to the correct system.[not cross over into the stock system or the race system. It can be done with soleniods but it will get alittle complex.STan

thanks stan

Jim told me about a part used on a Ford van with dual tanks, and Vinny gave me a lead on a system that I am researching right now.

Don, I have talked to a few people about this. You can also get with promodlightning (Pete) he has an out standing fuel line system that he hooked me up with that uses 1/2" lines, fuel gage, and a distribution block nanafold for NOZ and what ever else that you could hook your other fuel system in to. Get with im and he can tell you the rest.

Remember that it will take about 14 sec. for the fuel to purge to race fuel once you hit the switch! That means you'll have to hit the switch than talk chit to your aponet!

why dont you just get an alcohol injection kit and just spray it when you need it... does the same thing and more... it raises your octane while cooling the intake charge... much less expensive, stealthier (fits in place of your washer fluid resorvoir and washer fluid tank relocated underneath it) easier to do, endless benefits without the hassle.

The reasons I want to put a 2 fuel system are
1) since I drive to the track I have to make sure I get to the track with a allmost totally empty tank, or I have to drain the tank down.
2) Every time I go to the track I have to buy 10 gallons of race fuel, and we all know what that stuff costs.
3) I either have to drain the remaining gas out of the tank, or top off the tank with 93 octane. Since I live in a building with undergound parking they don't like me storing 10 gallons of race fuel in the garage.

So if I install a race only fuel system with say a 5 gallon fuel cell, I will only need to buy a few gallons of race fuel when I go to the track. If I go a bunch of rounds buy a few more gallons. I won't have to worry about getting to the track totally empty of street fuel, and when I leave just flip the switch and go back to street fuel. Also driving around on leaded race fuel can foul the spark plugs.

What would be really cool is if you could mount a tank out of an older truck that was actually two tanks built into one.(I know my dads late 80's F250 was this way) Had two fuel pumps, and a switch for going between them. Problem was the tank was hugh. I've always wondered if it could be done.

Don:

It can be done. I'm friends with a master fabricator that works for Young's Perfomance. ( the DFI/Turbo/Blower guys that built alot of Outlaw and Pro 5.0 cars ) Young's is actually about 5min from my house.

Anyway, I think he could do this for you. I'm gonna give him a call and talk with him about it.

Will you be attending JDM day???
